Our partner the Network Contagion Research Institute, is a leading American NGO that helps US authorities to identify and forecast online threats. The Washington Post published an article on research conducted by the NCRI using Bright Data, titled "Inauthentic, Cyber Activity From Khalistani Extremist Accounts Precedes and Amplifies Attacks on Hindu Temples and Indian Government Buildings." We are very proud of this partnership and of the ability to make the web a better place. Link to the research: https://bit.ly/42jCL7z Link to the article: https://bit.ly/3LrNLcb

Marcin Sawinski and Milena Stróżyna are researchers at the Department of Information Systems at the Poznan University of Technology. As part of their research, they’re attempting to find ways to combat fake news and build actionable tools to allow fact-checkers to do a more efficient job. Through our partnership, Sawinski and Strozyna have access to Bright Data’s platform which allows them to orchestrate and manage all the processes locally while fetching the public web data they need from different zones. With funding from the Polish National Research Center, the end goal of their research is to increase the capacity of fact-checkers when scanning the network for potential fakes. Not quite a machine that reveals the absolute truth, but it supports researchers in identifying fake news. It is a pleasure to partner with such a fascinating research! #dataforgood #dataanalytics #fakenews

The MegaEdu project in Brazil has set an ambitious goal of providing quality internet access to all public schools in the country by 2026. To achieve this, they plan to build a database of internet providers for each school using a web scraper to identify gaps in internet access. Armed with this data, the MegaEdu project intends to develop simple, data-driven solutions to bring high-speed internet to public schools, bridging the digital divide and creating equitable opportunities for all students to access online resources and succeed in their education. We take pride in supporting this critical agenda that aligns with our values and mission. https://lnkd.in/df4Fj3Kq #equalopportunities #educationalequity #dataforgood #brazil

Public web data has become an essential resource for researchers looking to better understand the global state of women and advance women's rights. Today, we want to highlight the work of Ms. Jing Feng, a doctoral candidate in economics at The Ohio State University, whose research leveraged public web data to investigate the impact of the #MeToo movement on women at startup companies. Her findings demonstrate the power of data to shed light on important issues related to women's empowerment and gender equality. Using publicly available web data provided through our partnership, Ms. Feng analyzed LinkedIn user profile data and company profile data to gain insight into employees' work experience, educational backgrounds, and firm characteristics. Her research found that women-led startups are more likely to receive investments following the #MeToo movement, driven in part by female investors. This is a significant shift in the landscape of venture capital, which has traditionally favored male-led firms Feng's research also found that women are now more likely to be hired and promoted to executive-level positions at startup companies, particularly at traditionally male-led firms. The largest impact was seen at companies that were previously less inclusive towards women. These findings suggest that the movement has played an essential role in transforming the lives of women at startup companies, and in creating a more inclusive and equitable ecosystem for entrepreneurship. This is an important step towards closing the gender gap in leadership positions and ensuring that women have equal opportunities to succeed in their careers. The findings also demonstrate the power of public web data in driving positive change for women's rights and empowerment and highlight the importance of continued research in this field. #intenationalwomensday #genderstudies #researchmatters #womeninresearch #linkedin #leadership

ELEM Israel - Youth in Distress is a commendable non-profit organization that has taken up the critical responsibility of helping at-risk youth in Israel. As part of a cutting-edge program they have established, ELEM has teamed up with us to identify the social media profiles of young girls who may be at risk of or have already endured domestic abuse. This project came to life during the Michal Sela Forum | MSF Global Hackathon and is currently undergoing beta testing. A team of social workers and data engineers worked together to develop an AI model that analyzes social media posts for keywords, phrases, hidden messages, tags, and other potential distress signals. Training and improving this AI model require a vast amount of data, therefore, ELEM utilized Bright Data's data sets of publicly available web data and our platform, to build a data collector that can extract new information and create data on a large scale. Once all targeted profiles are accessible through a platform, trained social workers will be able to create an intervention plan to make help accessible to girls in need. It's essential to remember that sometimes saving lives begins with providing accessible help and informing them of its existence. Thank you ELEM, for your amazing work. #internationalwomensday #dataforgood #probono #brightdata #youthempowerment #aiforgood ELEM USA - Youth in Distress in Israel
