The Visitors Centre of the Peace Palace will reopen its doors on Friday, April 29th. Initially, the Center will be open from Friday to Sunday from 12 - 5 p.m.
In addition, various guided tours are offered again: Inside the Palace & Around the Palace. The first guided tours in the Palace will take place on April 30th & May 1st and there are still tickets available: https://lnkd.in/gxb8pFA.

At the end of 2021, The Peacebuilding Project was awarded the Youth Carnegie Peace Prize. It is an international volunteer-led youth organization founded by Rhea Mahanta.
In order to get more acquainted with the organization and its work, the volunteers wrote a blog which showcases what peacebuilding looks like in practice. In the blog, the young peacebuilders describe their activities and international projects, such as training and supporting women from Afghanistan.

Renee Krist's brother was killed in Afghanistan in 2007. Hans Ploegmakers is one of the seven survivors of the Hercules disaster, a 1996 plane crash that took place in Eindhoven (NL). Renee and Hans are ambassadors of the Invictus Games, which will take place in The Hague from April 16 to 22.
The Invictus Games, whose founder and patron is the Duke of Sussex, are an international sporting event for physically and mentally injured military personnel. The Games use the power of sport to encourage recovery, support rehabilitation and generate wider understanding and respect for those who serve or have served their country.
Ambassadors Renee and Hans shared their personal stories during a visit to the Peace Palace. A video of this visit is part of the opening ceremony that will be broadcast live on Dutch television NOS and the BBC on Saturday evening, April 16, 2022.

"Bertha von Suttner could not change wars, but she changed the way we look at them."
Bertha von Suttner (1843 - 1914) was the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She was a key figure of the peace movement and maintained close ties with Henry Dunant, Aletta Jacobs and Alfred Nobel, among others.
Her successful book "Lay down your arms!" was first published in 1889 and unlike her contemporaries, Von Suttner did not describe the war from a hero's perspective, but expressed in a personal and painful way what war can actually do to people.
Von Suttner was able to surround herself with statesmen and pacifists and played a major role in the establishment of the Peace Palace. The German broadcaster ZDF has produced an episode on "Lichtgestalten" in history and it also features Bertha von Suttner and the Peace Palace (from 29:12):

Ferdinand Bol (1616-1680) and Gerard de Lairesse (1640-1711) are among the most important artists of the 17th century. There are unique painting ensembles by both artists in the Bol Room of the Peace Palace in The Hague. Art historian Margriet van Eikema Hommes has undertaken extensive research into these ensembles.
The Carnegie Foundation has produced a documentary in which Margriet van Eikema Hommes and conservator Jacobine Kerdijk - Wieringa highlight interesting details about the artworks in the Bol Room. By watching the documentary, you can now have a look at this beautiful room which, generally speaking, is not open to the public. The documentary also makes the impressive results of the research into the 17th century paintings available to everyone.
