Last week, we hosted our first #ClimateLeadersForum in #Berlin, bringing together sustainability professionals from many of the largest companies in the country. Under the motto “Driving Change, Forging Alliances”, we grouped up in smaller workshops, discussing concrete actions on the challenges that face us, such as #NetZero, #CSRD, or #ScienceBasedTargets. One of the event's highlights was to have Prof. Dr. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, one of the world’s most renowned climate scientists, kicking off our program with an inspiring yet sobering keynote speech on global temperatures scratching the 1.5 degree mark in 2023. Dr. Schellnhuber also joined our panel on “Turning Facts into Action in 2024” — along our host Linda Kannenberg, Alexander Farsan, Christoph Reißfelder, Dr. Olivia Henke and Judit Legrady. Discussing the challenges of climate change and industry transformation, the need for innovative thinking and the importance of regulatory frameworks, it became clear that to overcome actual challenges, we need strong alliances of policy makers, science, and the private sector, aligned the same goal: to drive climate action. It was a pleasure to discuss in such a distinguished and professional environment and we would like to thank everyone who actively participated, shared their experiences, raised critical questions, and therefore contributed to fruitful exchange. #SustainableBusiness #ClimateAction #ClimateImpactForAll

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) represents a major step forwards in corporate sustainability reporting, legally binding companies in the EU to disclose their impact on the environment and on human rights transparently and consistently. Where our previous post provided an overview of the #CSRD and who it affects, this piece focuses on the concept of #DoubleMateriality, one of the most important changes to the reporting process under the new regulation. We explain what this means, why it's important, and how companies can prepare for it. Anna Lövquist | Magnus Kagg #ParisAgreement #EFRAG #ESRS #ESG #EU

With the Asia-Pacific Climate Week in full swing, we caught up with Karolien Casaer-Diez, South Pole's Regional Director of Climate Policy, Finance, and Carbon Markets, to unpack the state of corporate climate action in the region, hot topics coming out of this climate week and the important debates to look forward to at #COP28. Asia-Pacific continues to inspire confidence in corporate climate action, consistently improving and demonstrating innovation. In Karolien's words: "Climate action across Asia-Pacific continues to move at an unprecedented pace. With many cities, communities, and governments in the region at the forefront of climate action, it is a region of untapped potential for corporate climate action. The sense of Asian leadership and momentum is palpable at Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2023." Our circular economy team was delighted to co-host the 'Scaling Local Solutions to Plastic Pollution' event ahead of the latest round of UN Global Plastics Treaty negotiations in Nairobi. South Pole joined forces with WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, EA - Earth Action, and our project partner for plastic credits, TakaTaka Solutions, to host a site visit to the Taka Taka recycling facility and a discussion on how private and public sector action can achieve global circularity and put an end to the plastics crisis. There was a clear consensus built during the session on the need for corporate targets on reducing plastic pollution that are transparent, robust and actionable. Any future UN global treaty on plastic pollution should include mandatory disclosure from companies on their plastic footprint and provide a framework that translates goals into corporate action to reduce plastic pollution. Find out more about the event and our call to action on plastic pollution here: https://lnkd.in/e3zd3n92 #INC3 #PlasticPollution #PlasticsTreaty #Disclosure #ClimateImpactforAll

Companies taking action to reduce emissions in their supply chains are at the cutting edge of corporate climate action today. That's why we are proud to be supporting AB InBev to establish a renewable electricity group buying initiative that will support their suppliers and customers to decarbonise. Through this agreement, AB InBev suppliers and customers will be able to directly engage in Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) across Europe, benefiting from potential cost-savings, hedging against price volatility and securing the necessary renewable electricity volumes for their operations. Commenting on the partnership, Patrick Horka, Global Director, Renewable Energy Solutions, South Pole, says: “South Pole is excited to launch this initiative with AB InBev, which is designed to help the members of the group buying program to take part in the clean energy transition and further their green ambitions without requiring them to develop and operate their own renewable energy projects. We are looking forward to the challenging but exciting journey to source European PPAs and thereby join AB InBev in their leadership in driving value-chain decarbonisation.” Find out more about this partnership and our work to accelerate the transition to clean energy here: https://lnkd.in/ep-WKnWc #RE100 #ABInBev #RenewableEnergy #ClimateImpactforAll
