Astrobotic’s Post
Congrats to Astrobot Taylor JL Whitaker for winning this month’s Peregrine Award, recognizing individual excellence.🥇✨🌙 Q: How did you first become interested in your career? A: Growing up in the era of the Space Shuttle, space exploration was always something I wanted to be involved with. Model rocket launches were a family favorite when I was younger. But, it wasn't until I discovered the potential of a few people behind a computer that I saw a clear path into the field. Diving as deep as I could into computers and the programming that makes them work helped me realize that all spacecraft need a computer in one way or another and maybe I could help! Q: What project are you currently working on? A: I am currently the software engineer for our CubeRover Tipping Point program that aims to develop a commercial rover that aids in getting payloads to the Moon. I am responsible for the flight software that will control the rover's movements on the Lunar surface, imaging capabilities to beam back pictures of the surface, and localization mechanisms so the rover knows where it is on the Moon. Additionally, I am developing a flexible payload interface so we can adapt and carry any payload that someone wishes to send to the Moon, without having to build a rocket first!

“This success marks a major program milestone for Peregrine mission as well as for Astrobotic as a company. Confirming the technical capabilities of our team and our custom-built avionics and communications systems in a sophisticated, system-level spacecraft test was a tremendous success. Seeing the entire team overcome test challenges felt close to flying the actual mission. This is a great accomplishment for our historic trip to the Moon,” - Ander Solorzano, Flight Director & Lead Systems Engineer https://lnkd.in/eE4cXkEt #NASA #space #success
On this #InternationalMoonDay, we're honoring the past and looking ahead to when Peregrine lands on the Moon later this year. With 24 payloads and tens of thousands of individuals joining us through our DHL #MoonBox program, we're humbled to have so many of you aboard.
“We came all this way to explore the Moon, and the most important thing is that we discovered the Earth,” - Astronaut Bill Anders. Happy Day, everyone. We are honored to be leading America back to the Moon so soon after the 50th anniversary of #Apollo
