Cancer has a way of rearranging everything. Judy Bidwell, a GEA senior HR director, learned this lesson at age 2. After losing her mother to breast cancer as a young child, Judy was still stunned to receive her own breast cancer diagnosis in 2018.
"I was at home and feeling low, eight weeks into chemotherapy treatments," she said.
As if right on time, Judy received a surprise package in the mail. It was a beautiful scarf sent by her colleague, Sylvia Tamez, as encouragement through the international nonprofit Hope Scarves. Tucked in neatly with the scarf was the powerful story of a cancer survivor. Judy knew in her heart she was not alone. "I received strength from that tiny package of hope," she said.
Today Judy, now cancer-free, is part of lending strength to others as part of Hope Scarves. And it’s one of the organizations we’ll be supporting this Friday when our GEA team comes together in a socially distanced way during our Volunteer Fall Project Day to #UniteForGood! 🙌
