I started working at Whole Foods in April to pay rent, as I was laid off from my previous job due to COVID. I became friends with my coworkers and we all worked side by side amidst one pandemic, while watching a racial pandemic expose itself in our country. Wed. June 24th, we collectively put on masks that said "Black Lives Matter," and that day, 7 of us were told to take them off or leave without pay. Today is day 18 that Whole Foods has made us walk out of work for wearing masks that say "Black Lives Matter," and we are now towing the line of being fired. Whole Foods has donated $10 million to 12 organizations that aid the BLM movement; and their website reads, "Racism has no place here. We support the Black community and meaningful world change." With tremendous support from City council members, State reps, the Mayor of Cambridge, Elizabeth Warren, community members, strangers across the country, and my co-workers, we have managed to build a movement. These masks are spreading and we ask you to join us by Boycotting Whole Foods and Costco, who have only now enforced their dress code after we have worn these masks that say "Black Lives Matter." We must hold corporations accountable for systemic racism. We must normalize Black lives. This is not political. This is human rights.
