The crisis in energy markets is delivering a real-time stress test to the financial system. Dramatic falls in coal, oil and natural gas prices are providing valuable evidence about the lack of resilience of fossil fuel assets in a future energy system dominated by renewables. But to solve the exam question posed by Central Banks, we need to anticipate which firms have the adaptive capacity to make a rapid transition. I'm pleased to share this update on work we are undertaking at Imperial College London to chart a way forward on methodological challenges and data issues.
