WORLD SOIL DAY 2019 - 5 December 2019 : Stop soil erosion, save our future. When we talk about soil erosion, we mean the effects of water, wind, and working the soil. Soil erosion remains a challenge for agriculture – especially sustainable agriculture. Degradation makes soils dry, less productive and less fertile. Erosion also alters biodiversity in soils, which support thousands of animal and plant species. According to FAO, the equivalent of one soccer field of soil is eroded every five seconds. On this World Soil Day, we need to “raise awareness of the importance of sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by encouraging people around the world to engage in proactively improving soil health”. There is no food safety without food management – and there is no food management without soil management. Let's work together to make the ecosystem healthier for our well-being. #StopSoilErosion
