❝We must continue to be vigilant. That means pressing on with military action while countering online propaganda and using every diplomatic and humanitarian lever to address the conditions that allowed the rise of Daesh in the first place.❞ Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt reflects on the fall of Daesh, and why the fight to tackle its poisonous ideology continues
Theres much which can be said in relation to this assessment and although I agree with some of what been said, the safety concerns should not be limited to simply the European context. Thousands of children are in IDP camps all across Syria and Iraq. Innocent victims of war who have been left psychologically damaged in a context that is socially, politically, economically and religiously damaged. Without a sustained rehabilitation programme for these children there is every chance that they'll be exploited in to a fresh wave of terrorism. Da'esh have left fertile ground for radicalisation to fester. We cant leave that unchecked, not from a security perspective and certainly not from a humanitarian perspective!
