Excited to have completed the 8-week intensive and immersive Introductory to Effective Altruism (EA) online course with some of the most amazing people from the UK, Germany, China, America, Poland, Czech Republic, Brazil and Ireland. 🎀 I first heard about EA from my dear friend Dr. Kikiope Oluwarore. I remember reading about this growing social movement based on the idea that good intentions alone, while admirable, are not enough to have an impact. I was stunned! 🎀 In the last 10 years of working with children and adolescent girls in poor, hard-to-reach, underserved, marginalized, and conflict-affected communities in Nigeria, I’ve always been one who wants to first research a problem before I delve into it, no matter how pressing the issue looks. 🎀 Starting the introductory course further confirmed what I have been teaching aspiring change makers for over three years; we should ALWAYS combine our compassion/passion with reasoning and evidence so that the impact of our work does the most good possible. 🎀 Thanks to my amazing facilitator, Jan Vantova who took us through the course, challenging us to open up our minds as we tackle some of the most challenging questions of our era. 🎀 I woke up today, asking: “what global problems are my organization prioritizing, what strategies have the best chances of solving this problem, and how can I best use my career, donations, resources, and lifestyle to contribute to this?” Looking deep within, I’ve always been an effective altruist. 😁 I’ve enrolled in the In-depth Effective Altruism Course and cannot wait to delve in. 🎀 If you’ve read this far, I’ll like to introduce EA to you.
