Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean
I’m very pleased to receive today a copy of the new book edited by Professor
Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez. I co-authored a chapter in this book under the title: “Sustainable Development Challenges in Latina America and the Caribbean”.
Abstract:
Development pathways for Latin American and the Caribbean countries have been the subject of debates, analyses and controversies. For several decades, countries in this region have struggled with structural barriers to development associated with social inequalities, political turmoil, colonialism, corruption and a dependence on exploiting natural resources,
among others. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened some of those obstacles, which when added to the global climate crisis and its environmental impact, leaves the region in a highly stressed situation, with many of its countries on the edge of a deep economic depression. This chapter discusses some of the socioeconomic challenges that Latin America and the Caribbean currently face: the roles of COVID-19 and climate crises on these challenges and some opportunities for recovery.

Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean
I’m very pleased to receive today a copy by mail of the new book edited by Professor Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez. I co-authored a chapter in this book under the title “Sustainable Development Challenges in Latina America and the Caribbean”. Below is a brief abstract:
Development pathways for Latin American and the Caribbean countries have been the subject of debates, analyses and controversies. Pleased to Prepare & Present Part of Egypt's First National Finance for Development FFD Report "Financing Sustainable Development in Egypt".
This is the first of its kind report in the Arab region & the World.
I presented the part on the Way Forward which discusses the Global Finance for Development Landscape, Milestones on Egypt's Sustainable Development Path, Issues to be addressed and the Role of Enablers that need to be reinforced. It ends with Key Policy Recommendations for mobilizing financial resources.
The Lead Author is Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin Mohieldin, the UN Special Envoy for Financing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund.
The Report is developed in cooperation with Egypt's Ministry of Planning & Economic Development in Egypt, headed by H.E Dr. Hala H. Elsaid , Minister of Planning & Economic Development, League of Arab States, and a number of UN organizations.
The Report was launched during the Arab Sustainable Development Week ASD - fourth edition- "Together for Sustainable Recovery" by the League of Arab States. ASD id developed by the Sustainable Development Department headed by Embassador Nada El Agizy at the League of Arab States.

سعدت بتقديم و اعداد جزء من التقرير الوطني لتمويل التنمية المستدامة في مصر و هو الجزء الخاص بالتوجهات المستقبلية و التوصيات الخاصة بتعبئة الموارد المالية لتمويل مسار التنمية المستدامة في مصر. و هذا التقرير هو الاول من نوعه في مصر و المنطقة العربية و العالم. و تم اطلاق التقرير في إطار الاسبوع العربي للتنمية المستدامة بالمنطقة العربية- النسخة الرابعة- برعاية جامعة الدول العربية بعنوان "معا للتعافي المستدام" و قد تم إعداد التقرير بالتعاون مع الدكتور محمود محي الدين مبعوث الأمم المتحدة الخاص بتمويل أجندة ٢٠٣٠ للتنمية المستدامة و المدير التنفيذي في صندوق النقد الدولي , و عدد من الخبراء في هذا المجال. كما تم إطلاق التقرير برعاية وزارة التخطيط و التنمية الاقتصادية في مصر و علي راسها سيادة الوزيرة د./ هالة السعيد و جامعة الدول العربية بالإضافة إلي عدد من منظمات الأمم المتحدة....

Thank you so much Dr. Israa A. . for your joint contribution with Dr. Khaled Zakaria Amin, Ph.D. The chapter clarified and answered many questions on the design and priorities of the state budget and established strong links with financing sustainable development in Egypt. The presentation of the work during the launching of the report was impressive.

Honored to work with a group of distinguished authors under the supervision of Prof. Mahmoud Mohieldin on "Financing Sustainable Development in Egypt" Report, launched this week by the Leage of Arab States.
My contribution is chapter 4, coauthored with Prof. Khaled Zakaria Amin, Ph.D. , on "Budget Design and Priorities".
The chapter discusses the role of fiscal policy in achieving the SDGs and analyzes the processes and structure of Egypt’s State Budget from the SDGs perspective.
