Application of AI & Blockchain to solving urban environmental challenges

Severe and more frequent weather-related phenomena is being observed across the planet due to rising temperatures caused by global warming. This catastrophic global climate change requires urgent action. New, innovative and disruptive technologies are said to offer a tremendous potential to help monitor and mitigate the effects of climate change . Frontier technologies such as Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can assist in tasks such as automated detection and monitoring, smart contracts (as applied in the case of local energy marketplace like the Brooklyn Microgrid Project ), visualizing climate change , traceability of the exchange of value and related information, risk assessment and predictive analysis hence improving the accuracy of climate change models, promoting sustainable use of energy through consumer awareness, and bringing greater efficiency and transparency.
AI and Blockchain can be applied in waste management, agriculture, energy, transport, flood management and other sectors that are deemed to be drivers of climate change. The session is aimed at bringing together leading subject matter experts from cities, academia, international organizations and think tanks to discuss the potential of AI and Blockchain in the efforts to monitor and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The following questions will be addressed in the session:
• What are the key features of AI and Blockchain and that will help in tracking GHG emissions and offsets, and in predicting extreme weather events?
• What are the main areas of application of AI and blockchain in climate change? What are the key opportunities and challenges?
• How can existing AI and blockchain solutions be made available to cities in developing countries?
