Anna Yocom has provided key insights on financial policy as a Staff Accountant for OASA (FM&C). A graduate of the Defense Comptroller Program at Syracuse, Yocom joined FM&C’s Army Budget Office in 2011, moving to the Financial Operations and Accounting Office’s Policy Division in 2013. There, Yocom helps the Army adhere to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, internal controls, and audit standards. Her work implementing effective financial policies and practices involves extensive coordination across many different entities including the Department of Army Headquarters, U.S. Army Financial Management Command, Major Army Commands, Defense Finance & Accounting Service, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Yocom has also performed the role of the Army’s primary organizer of the Annual Financial Management (FM) Workshop. This workshop, drawing 3,000 attendees and 90 presenters, provides specialized training to the entire DoD FM community, facilitating updates on policy, system changes, error mitigation/resolution and supporting the maintenance of certification requirements. Her decision to start a career with the Army was influenced by her family’s history of service. Both of Yocom’s grandfathers, an aunt, and an uncle had served in the military. Her parents similarly served as Department of the Army Civilians. When not working Yocom enjoys spending time with her daughter, who is involved in high school marching band. As a former marching band member herself, Yocom shares that “it’s fun getting to re-live some of those memories [...] from a different perspective and also making new memories with my daughter.” Yocom feels her contributions to the Army’s audit mission includes helping others to perform their jobs better. “My work aims to improve processes, mitigate or reduce errors, train and advise Army Commands on how to complete their mission while adhering to legal, regulatory, and auditable requirements.” After almost 21 years with the Army, Yocom will be departing FM&C this month to pursue new challenges with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller). We’ll miss all the support she has provided to FM&C and wish her luck in her new assignment!  #ArmyAudit #ArmyFinance #ArmyCivilians #ArmyTransformation
