I am writing to let you know that after nearly 15 fantastic years as the CEO of Verra, I have decided to step down. I am immensely proud of what Verra has accomplished and of the incredible team that has made it the world’s leading standard-setter for climate action and sustainable development. I want to take this opportunity thank all of you who have supported Verra and myself over the years, whether that be through the use of Verra’s standards, supporting us during tough times, or simply wanting to learn more about the world of certification and how it applies to climate change, sustainable development, plastic pollution, and biodiversity. The trust you placed in Verra and myself in my role as CEO has meant a lot, and I leave knowing we have made tremendous strides together in addressing some of the world’s most vexing environmental and social problems. Working with you on these important issues has been a great highlight of my career. In my stead, our current President, Judith Simon, will serve as Interim CEO, and I will stay on as a senior advisor to Verra’s Board of Directors to help advise the transition. As you may recall, we hired Judith in February as part of our long-term strategy to lead, elevate, and scale Verra as an organization. Judith brings the kinds of skills Verra needs to continue to grow and has the support of a terrific team of experienced professionals leading Verra’s departments, each with a set of incredibly talented and dedicated teams that continue to advance Verra's mission in new and powerful ways. I look forward to staying engaged and supporting Verra and the board of directors throughout this transition. My last day as CEO of Verra will be Friday, 16 June, and while I don’t have plans for my next venture, I will be taking advantage of all the holidays and sabbaticals I was never able to take! I already have a long vacation planned with my family and a 10-day backpacking trip with old friends, with lots of reading, biking, and long walks in the woods along the way.
