#FARI2025 | Thank you for an unforgettable 4th edition of the FARI Conference! This year, more than 800 participants joined us over two days: policymakers and public administrations, researchers from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Université libre de Bruxelles and beyond, civil-society organisations, innovators, students, technologists, and industry leaders. A community diverse in roles, but united in purpose: to reflect on how AI, data and robotics can serve the common good. #FARI2025 unfolded around a central question: “AI, Robots & Us: what does it mean to live with intelligent agents?” On the first day at Studio Flagey, international experts, researchers, policymakers and civil-society leaders gathered to explore this question from every angle. From opening remarks to keynotes, spotlight talks and sessions on AI agents, human–AI–robot collaboration, future societies and AI governance, the room was not simply listening. People were leaning forward. Challenging assumptions. Reflecting together. There was a real sense of collective exploration - of beginning to shape a shared understanding of the future we want. And if Day 1 was about imagining that future, Day 2 was about starting to build it. At BeCentral, our partners, collaborators and community members came together for a more intimate, hands-on day: workshops, exchanges, demos and practical discussions about what it truly takes to deploy responsible, people-centred AI in real-world contexts. It felt less like a conference, and more like a big working session with a shared mission: bringing public-interest AI to life in Brussels and beyond. One of the key moments came when we officially launched the Public Interest AI Network: a global alliance bringing together leading research institutions from Europe, the Americas, and Asia to ensure that artificial intelligence serves the public interest. Thank you: - To our speakers, for their clarity, courage and generosity. - To our partners, for their collaboration and trust. - To all attendees, for your engagement, questions and energy. From a team of four people in 2021 to a community that now gathers hundreds around AI for the common good; this journey has only been possible because of you. We cannot wait to continue building this movement together. See you in 2026. 🌍🤝🤖 📸 © Thierry Geenen / FARI - AI for the Common Good Institute Brussels

👂 Designing AI Literacy starts with listening Before creating an AI literacy curriculum for non-technical employees, we wanted to understand the real needs of the people who will use it. Where did we turn to uncover real insights about AI literacy in Belgium? Researchers from Artificial Intelligence Lab Brussels went beyond assumptions and gathered insights directly from CEOs, project managers, educators, consultants, non-technical employees, and public sector staff: 👉 30+ professionals completed our survey 👉 10 representatives from 7 SMEs & institutions shared their perspectives in interviews 👉 10 representatives from 9 SMEs & organizations joined our focus group discussions What did we discover about AI literacy in the workplace? 1️⃣ Human factors—fear, skills gaps, and culture—are bigger barriers than thetechnology itself. 2️⃣ Non‑technical teams need simple, clear understanding of how AI works, its limits, and its ethical implications. 3️⃣ Shift from passive acceptance or fear to active, confident, and responsible use. 4️⃣ Practical, hands‑on learning with peer exchange, real use cases, and continuous updates. 5️⃣ Connect technical experts with business and education leaders to align goals and avoid misunderstandings. 6️⃣ Concerns about jobs, misinformation, and environmental impact coexist with excitement about efficiency and creativity. 7️⃣ Most organizations lack clear AI rules, though awareness of frameworks like the EU AI Act is growing. 8️⃣ Rapid innovation and hype create confusion, unrealistic expectations, and fatigue. 9️⃣ Building confidence, clear communication, and a mindset shift that keeps human value at the center are essential. 🔟 People need clear onboarding, group learning, and hands‑on practice with real examples—supported by ongoing guidance and tailored content. What’s coming soon? A groundbreaking, practical, and human-centered AI literacy curriculum designed for non‑technical employees and tailored to SME realities. #AmIFit #AICompetence #DigitalSkills #ErasmusPlus #SMEs #ArtificialIntelligence #Innovation

  • 🤔 What does VET AI need to offer? As part of the AIVET project, partners from the Universität Wien participated in a three-phase Delphi survey to identify what an AI system for vocational education and training (VET) should provide. Through three rounds, experts agreed that AI tools must be #accessible, #ethical, #data-secure, and support #personalized career pathways (e.g., career matching, chatbots, simulations). They also highlighted challenges like bias and data protection.
