Friendship is the cornerstone of what we’re all about. From memories and stories large and small, deep human connection has a ripple effect on the world – and it starts with just two. We see friendships fostered on our platform everyday, both in our content and within our community, that prove that shared connection always wins over division. In the spirit of National Friendship Day this week, we’re sharing stories of those old relationships that hit us emotionally, and of new ones forged every day. Here’s to celebrating the friends who remind us all of what deep connection really looks like. 💛 #NationalFriendshipDay #Friendship #Connection #Humanity

We’re thrilled to see our partners at CARE named the 2025 ANA Nonprofit Federation Grand Prize Winner of the In-House GEM Award for their #SheLeadsTheWorld campaign. We were proud to support this powerful effort that spotlighted women leading change in their communities through bold storytelling and advocacy. Congratulations to Brandie Feuer and the entire CARE team on this honor!
CARE, a proud SeeHer member, has long championed the voices of women leading change in their communities. To spotlight the power of female leadership globally, CARE partnered with acclaimed photographer and activist Nigel Barker for #SheLeadsTheWorld—a stunning campaign blending art, storytelling, and advocacy. Together, they traveled to Sierra Leone to capture the stories of inspiring women transforming their communities. The campaign spanned online and offline platforms, from vibrant social media and national TV coverage to a gallery exhibit in NYC and a day of advocacy in D.C. With broad media reach, meaningful engagement, and new celebrity partnerships, the campaign celebrated women’s leadership on a global stage. Congratulations to CARE on winning the In-house GEM Gold Award! We had the pleasure of attending the #LiveMásScholars #SummerofConnection 2025 hosted by the Taco Bell Foundation – a four-day celebration of purpose, possibility, and the power of young voices. We hosted the Upworthy Studio and captured nearly 100 scholar stories, exploring their passions, dreams, experiences with the Taco Bell Foundation, and what it’s like to be a young adult today. We also led a storytelling workshop on how we create compelling stories and social content at Upworthy – human-centered, impactful, and designed to foster connection. Thank you to Mohammad S., Marchela Lavey, Andrew German, Lisa Lane Cardin, Daniel Horgan, Michael Nemeth, and the Taco Bell Foundation for including us in this powerful space that connects, uplifts, and inspires the next generation of changemakers! #TacoBellFoundation #LiveMasScholarship #TBFSOC25

“Science is the driver of innovation and a cornerstone for our society” – Dasia Taylor Last week, our Upworthy teammates Jessica K. Laufer and Tod Perry headed to Aspen Ideas: Health Festival 2025, where leaders across fields came together to explore innovative ways to build healthier communities. From positioning compassion as a health strategy to audacious scientific discoveries of the brain and hip hop health education, the conversations made it clear that solutions are rooted in collaboration, creativity, and connection. We were especially inspired by a session led by Dr. Mae Jemison, the first Black woman to travel into space, who led an amazing discussion with two of the festival’s youngest inventors. In high school, Dasia Taylor invented color-changing surgical sutures that detect early signs of infection. At 14, Sirish Subash invented a handheld pesticide residue detector that quickly identifies harmful residues on produce. Bravo to Ruth Katz, Executive Director of the Health, Medicine & Society Program, and Aspen Ideas: Health! A deeply inspiring, energizing event featuring the power of science, curiosity and innovation. We're grateful to learn from this vibrant community that is tackling today’s biggest challenges and empowering the next generation of problem solvers. 🌟

“The old adage “if it bleeds, it leads” isn't always correct. Negativity doesn't always win.” We were delighted to sit down with staff writer Tod Perry, who celebrated his 10th year with Upworthy this year. We chatted about his role in shaping Upworthy’s voice throughout the years, writing over 7,000 pieces that connect and inspire millions. • On the evolution of his storytelling: “I’ve learned to trust my intuition about what makes a story resonate. People want to feel seen and understood, and stories should invite readers in. It is empowering to genuinely get into the heart of people.” • On why Upworthy is especially important right now: “There’s a lot of mistrust in the media and one another – I see a big gap in people’s ability to relate to others. One of my goals is to bridge that gap with stories that provide real, tangible advice for people.” • On Upworthy’s “solution-oriented” approach: “People are craving a counterbalance to the overwhelming negativity of today’s media environment. We are doing something different by diving into what makes us all unique and human. Our stories come with a promise of some kind of benefit baked into them, and that’s why people keep coming back for more.”
