🌍 Youth Voices for Climate Action! 💬🌱 With the completion of the consultations in Skopje, we have wrapped up a series of events on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) organized across the country – part of the country’s efforts to strengthen climate action and resilience. 👏 A heartfelt thank you to the 150+ young participants who shared their perspectives, challenges, and innovative solutions for a more sustainable future. Their voices and recommendations will directly inform the country’s next NDC - ensuring that climate policies reflect the priorities of today’s and tomorrow’s generations. As UNICEF Representative, Lesley Miller shared during the event in Tetovo: “Although young people contribute the least to climate change, they feel its impacts the most. Today in Bitola, children and young people took part in the first of four consultation events on North Macedonia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) - part of the country’s efforts to strengthen its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. Through interactive sessions and open dialogue, participants are learning about global best practices and developing locally relevant measures for a more sustainable and climate-resilient future. 🌿 The consultation series continues in Strumica, Tetovo, and Skopje, ensuring that youth voices from across the country help shape national climate policies. #ClimateAction #Youth4Climate #NDCs #YouthEngagement

🚀 This week marks the first Social Innovation Training for mentors and teachers within the #UPSHIFT programme! Over the past three days, participants explored all phases of the design thinking process – from empathy and problem definition to idea generation and prototyping. 📝 On the final day, they are developing action plans that will help teachers and mentors apply this methodology in schools and in their work with young people. 👩🎓👨🎓 A special focus is placed on establishing UPSHIFT Clubs – spaces where young people can creatively tackle challenges in their communities. 🚨 For the first time, obesity has surpassed underweight among school-age children and adolescents globally. 🌐 A new UNICEF report shows: · 1 in 5 children worldwide live with overweight · 1 in 10 children live with obesity 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gFqU_Zjz This global health crisis is fueled by aggressive marketing of ultra processed foods that are high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. 👉 In North Macedonia, rates are higher than the global average: about 1 in 3 children aged 7 - 9 live with overweight, and 1 in 7 live with obesity. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dzcUZ_Gj We need action now: 🔴 Policies that protect children from harmful food marketing, such as sugar taxes 🔴 Accurate front of pack labelling of foods and beverages so families can make healthier choices 🔴 Prioritizing healthy diets within schools, including banning junk food Protecting children’s right to healthy food is not optional.
