  • “Now we have clean water, and we drink from it,” says Mariam, 11, in Al-Shmetiya in Deir-ez-Zor.   For more than a decade, families here lived without reliable access to safe drinking water, putting children at risk of waterborne disease.   With support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through the KfW Development Bank, UNICEF installed solar-powered systems at the local water treatment plant, ensuring reliable access to clean water.   #ForEveryChild #clean_water KfW Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) UN in Syria

  • 🚨 #Children and families are returning home — to destroyed schools, unsafe streets, and little support. Since December 2024, nearly 1.86 million displaced people and 1 million refugees have returned to their areas of origin — many to destroyed homes, limited services, and ongoing insecurity. 🔺 Explosive ordnance incidents have killed or injured over 1,100 civilians so far this year — a third are children. 🔺 187,000 people displaced in As-Sweida in July alone. 🔺 In 2025, #UNICEF has reached 7.5 million people, yet our appeal is only 31% funded. #Children cannot wait. Years of conflict. The loss of a brother. An amputated arm. At just 16, Cidra from Syria has faced unimaginable hardship. Yet, she continues to speak up for the rights of children. In times of crisis, many girls miss school because of the risks of sexual violence, child marriage, or not having the menstrual health products they need. Despite all this, Cidra keeps going and encourages others to do the same: “Keep pushing forward with your studies, no matter the challenges or difficulties you face.” Education is every girl’s right and nothing should stand in her way. #GirlGoals

  • Step into Aya’s day. At 17, she has lived in the camp since 2019.   She dreams of going home to Iraq, seeing her father again and continuing her education.   With UNICEF and partners, Aya attends computer and social cohesion sessions that build skills, dignity and respect. She also has access to safe water and learning opportunities.   Conditions in the camp remain difficult. Aya’s wish is simple: “to go home and live in peace.” #ForEveryChild, #peace Meritxell Relaño Arana UN in Syria

So viele verlorene Menschenleben, so viel Leid, so viele verschüttete Zukunftspläne. 🙏 Meritxell Relaño Arana Zeinab Adam Matteo Frontini Fleur Roussel-Ward Hasan Burhan Anja Čengić Aslanyan Narine Bassel Duksy Peter Power Joana Pérez Martorell Video: Ashawi/UNICEF

  • “Once I enter, my heart beats with joy, as if I’m stepping into a wonderland,” said Mouna, 11. After losing her father, Mouna found the mental health care she needed at a UNICEF-supported centre. • "When I met my son, he felt like a stranger." – Basheera, Sami’s mother. After his parents’ divorce, the loss of his father, and the destruction of his home, 9-year-old Sami returned to his mother, sad and struggling to cope. With support from UNICEF’s mental health and psychosocial services, Sami is now smiling, learning, and reconnecting with his world. This #WorldMentalHealthDay, we’re reminded that healing is possible, with the right support. Since January 2025, UNICEF has reached over 75,000 children and 60,000 caregivers across Syria, helping families rebuild lives with care, connection, and hope. 💚 Read Sami’s story   https://bit.ly/46NfD6A   #UNICEFSyria #MentalHealthMatters #ForEveryChild Meritxell Relaño Arana UN in Syria

  • 9 out of 10 children in Syria are living in poverty, leaving many at risk of malnutrition.   Malnutrition is not just hunger; it’s a life-threatening condition that affects growth, weakens immunity, and puts children’s lives at risk.   At Al-Sham Clinic in Deir-ez-Zor, UNICEF and partners support children like Seif with nutrition screening, treatment, and care; helping them recover and grow healthy.   With proper nutrition, clean water, and awareness, every child has the chance not only to survive but to thrive.   #ForEveryChild, #nutrition Meritxell Relaño Arana UN in Syria

  • UNICEF is providing emergency support to children and their families affected by the As-Sweida crisis, with a focus on psychosocial support and social protection in the areas where they have sought refuge, particularly in Rural Damascus.   UNICEF mobile teams are providing mental health and psychosocial support — from psychological first aid to safe spaces for children and parenting sessions for caregivers.   “When I draw and play, I forget the sad moments we’ve been through. I wish the team could visit us all the time,” says Rasha, 8, at a UNICEF-supported safe space in Rural Damascus.   #ForEveryChild, #safety Meritxell Relaño Arana UN in Syria
