The 2025-2026 school year was officially launched this Wednesday by the MENFP | Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale et de la Formation Professionnelle, in the presence of representatives of the Haitian government, the French Ambassador to Haiti, M. Antoine Michon , the #UNICEF Representative in Haiti, Ms. Geeta Narayan, as well as other UN agencies and partners. The UNICEF representative took the opportunity to highlight the difficulties children face in continuing their education due to the violence. She also reaffirmed UNICEF's commitment to continuing its support for these children through the various programmes implemented. #backtoschool2025 📚

The journey continues, this time reaching Temporary Learning Centres and hard-to-access communities. With the support of #MENFP, the #WestDDE, partner schools, and funding from Government of Japan and Education Cannot Wait (ECW), UNICEF and its partners #OCCED’H distributed school kits to thousands of children, helping parents better prepare for this school year. Even in the most difficult areas, every child deserves their first day of school. #backtoschool2025 📚

The UNICEF Representative in Haiti, Ms Geeta Narayan, joined a school kit distribution ceremony organized by #EDUPOL with support from the Government of Japan. More than 500 children, including some living in displacement sites and others who had never had the chance to go to school, received their kit. Because even in the most difficult circumstances, every child must be able to learn, go to school, and have the materials they need. #BackToSchool #foreverchild 🩵

Despite the persistent challenges of insecurity, UNICEF remains steadfast in its efforts to protect children and pregnant women. With the support of Gavi, the Government of Japan, and in close partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), a nationwide catch-up vaccination campaign 💉 is currently being implemented across Haiti. In Artibonite, the campaign was launched on 22 September and will run until 3 October. Forty health facilities are already engaged, and to date, more than 1,500 children and 600 pregnant women have received essential vaccinations. #foreverchild 🩵

For many children, continuing their education remains a significant challenge, particularly in regions affected by violence and displacement, such as the West, Centre, and Artibonite. By mid-July 2025, over 1,600 schools had closed, including 1,087 permanently. In collaboration with its partners, UNICEF continues to intensify its efforts to support children in returning to school and to provide them with catch-up classes. #foreverchild🩵
