Sultanate of Oman at UNGA: Investing in the Early Years We are proud to share the Sultanate of Oman’s participation in UNICEF’s UNGA event “Unlocking the Future: A Global Call to Invest in the Early Years.” Shununa Alhabsi, long-time champion of early childhood development and current Representative of Oman on the UNICEF Executive Board in New York as well as Assistant Director General for Special Needs at the Ministry of Education of Oman, delivered a powerful statement highlighting Oman’s commitment to quality early childhood education, inclusive of children with disabilities, as a cornerstone of Vision 2040. Through integrated early childhood development programs and strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Education and UNICEF, Oman is paving the way to ensure that by 2040, every child has access to at least one year of quality pre-school education. Watch Shununa's full speech below as #Oman reaffirms its dedication to investing in the early years, fostering inclusive growth, and calling for global collaboration to scale up early childhood education and development.

We were delighted that Oman's very own Professor Thuwayba Barwani, Vice-Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC), delivered a virtual presentation at the 'Advancing Child Rights in the MENA Region Workshop' last week. Drawing on her expertise, Professor Thuwayba reflected on the Committee's mandate and role, highlighted pressing child rights issues in the MENA region and shared models for collaboration alongside best practices from around the world. Her contribution added a valuable perspective to the regional dialogue on how to advance and uphold children's rights across contexts.
