Connecting today's learning to future opportunities is important. When young people see how their education connects to real job opportunities, they become more motivated. Families appreciate the value of education, and communities thrive. Last week, Dr Pia Rebello Britto visited a lively TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) school in Accra, where students are acquiring valuable skills in IT, engineering, and solar technology. The energy and creativity of the students showed why we should celebrate TVET instead of looking down on it. However, 91% of the secondary students in this engineering-focused #TVET school are male. Girls should have the same chance to explore and succeed in high-growth technical careers. To unlock the full potential of Ghana's skills ecosystem, UNICEF is collaborating with the government and other partners to: - Promote TVET as a preferred pathway to entrepreneurship and innovation - Generate evidence to inform policy and action - Advocate for sustainable and equitable financing - Ensure that girls are included and supported every step of the way These young innovators are helping to create a skills-driven future. Together, we can ensure that every learner has the opportunity to build the future they choose. #GirlsInSTEM #SkillsForAll | Ghana Education Service Christin McConnell Joseph Du Akua Gyan-Darkwa Dayoung Yang Ghana TVET Service Ministry of Education, Ghana Christopher Nkrumah

Children need to grow in a safe and nurturing environment. Recently, UNICEF, in collaboration with the Leadership of Parliament and ACEPA, conducted an important oversight visit to Ayensuano District. Members of Parliament connected with local Child Protection Committees and community leaders to address important child rights issues like child labour and trafficking. UNICEF works with the government and its partners to ensure every child's rights are upheld! #ChildRights #Advocacy #EndChildLabour

October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth! Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer globally and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women? Early detection is key to improving outcomes and survival rates. This month, we hosted a series of health talks, screenings, and awareness initiatives to emphasise the importance of early detection and holistic patient care. Remember, even a small show of support can send a powerful message: Early detection saves lives.

Ghana continues to lead in Early Childhood Education (ECE) as one of the first countries to establish national ECE standards and integrate kindergarten (KG) into the primary education system. During our roundtable discussion yesterday with the Ghana Education Service , UNICEF’s Dr Pia Britto emphasised the essential role of research and implementation science in #ECE. Key points included: - Ensuring that teacher training results in meaningful changes in the classroom - Designing programs with scalability and sustainability in mind - Strengthening the connection between KG and primary education - Developing governance systems that convert evidence into action As #Ghana expands its support for KG teachers nationwide, universities and local researchers will play a vital role in enhancing learning experiences for young children in the classroom. Together, we are committed to helping every child learn, grow, and thrive from the very beginning. #EarlyLearning #EducationForAll | Pia Rebello Britto Christin McConnell Let's Talk Foundational Learning UNICEF Africa Hempel Foundation

Nothing lights up learning like play and attention. Leading up to the launch of the Foundational Learning Action Tracker (FLAT) in Accra, Dr. Pia Rebello Britto (UNICEF Global Director of Education and Adolescent Development), Anders Holm (CEO of the Hempel Foundation), Dr. Clement Abas Apaak (Deputy Minister for Education), Osama Makkawi Khogali (UNICEF Ghana Representative) and partners joined children in play and observed differentiated learning. This experience highlighted how time, interaction, and inclusive approaches can bring classrooms to life. 📚 The #FLAT is a tool designed to monitor countries’ efforts to accelerate foundational learning, ensuring that every child can benefit from quality education. #EarlyLearning #InclusiveEducation | Ministry of Education, Ghana Ghana Education Service Let's Talk Foundational Learning Christin McConnell
