We Know Space.
About us
Umbra is an American space technology company built to push the limits of what’s possible. We’re redefining what can be done in and through space – expanding access, increasing persistence, and delivering a powerful information advantage to our customers. From the ground up in the U.S., we design, build, test, and operate advanced systems – from sensors to spacecraft – engineering novel solutions tailored to the missions that matter most. Our agile Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) constellation is the most capable system on the market — producing the highest-quality imaging data in any condition, at any time. Built for unmatched resilience, our system illuminates what others miss and empowers customers with persistent access, resilient performance, and proven results on orbit – not just on paper. Our commitment to First Principles engineering has fueled year-over-year growth since our market entry in 2021. And we are only just getting started. Umbra’s ecosystem today includes: - Remote Sensing = the data - Space Systems = the hardware - Mission Solutions = the platforms Together, these capabilities make Umbra the most effective partner in the market – delivering the flexibility, performance, and resilience your mission demands. By continuously designing, building, and operating our own systems, we’re constantly refining our technology, our products, and our craft. Our radar imagery is the direct result of our platform effectiveness – precision from orbit, powered by our integrated hardware and software. Because we’ve mastered the details, we can customize satellites quickly and reliably. Now, we’re offering others the same building blocks that more our missions possible. We know space. And we’re continuing to redefine it.

Continuing Growth in Asia: Umbra Expands Footprint with New Agreement in the Region. We’re proud to announce that Umbra has secured an agreement to deliver critical remote sensing capabilities to another government customer in Asia. The Asia-Pacific region is rapidly emerging as a key market for situational awareness solutions. From evolving security challenges to severe weather events and geopolitical uncertainty, the need for timely, reliable intelligence has never been greater. Through this new contract, Umbra will provide targeted, high-resolution imagery to empower decision-makers when it matters most — enabling faster, more informed responses in a region where speed and precision are critical. “SAR is the foundation of any true intelligence system, and Umbra starts with that – delivering not only the data, but the platforms and components that make it actionable,” said Joe Morrison, Vice President and General Manager of Remote Sensing at Umbra. “As we expand our presence in Asia, our global capabilities ensure that partners in the region can rely on the most capable radar constellation to strengthen resilience, enhance situational awareness, and give decision-makers the right information at the right time.” Learn more about Umbra’s capabilities: umbra.space

As the world watched Pyongyang prepare for this week’s Workers’ Party parade, Umbra’s constellation was already on task, capturing high-resolution radar imagery through clouds and darkness. Mirim Parade Training Ground: Our imagery shows the full buildup phase including rehearsals, vehicle staging, and formation organization, all collected despite poor weather conditions and night-time operations. Kim Il Sung Square: On parade day, Umbra captured, downlinked, and processed imagery of the ceremony in under 30 minutes, revealing dense crowd formations and equipment placement. SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) provides continuous visibility where optical sensors cannot, delivering reliable intelligence on critical world events in any weather, day or night.
