DSEI Day 4: What a busy final day at DSEI for the FutureNEST team! Our FutureNEST Chair, Neve Parker, spoke at the Keynote forum on her career in defence, sharing how her journey started as a degree apprentice at QinetiQ , where she is now and the impact of her passion. She joined a team of defence and security "tech Avengers" to discuss various career paths and how innovation can shape the future for the NextGen. Later, Neve was joined on stage by the rest of the FutureNEST board to debunk common myths about working in the defence sector. We extend our gratitude to everyone who attended and participated in the session. We particularly appreciated the diverse questions we had the opportunity to answer.

DSEI 25 Day 3: Another fantastic day for UKNEST. Our very own FutureNEST chair Neve Parker took part in a Panel with the Royal Navy - ‘Beyond rank: Building a skills-based Navy for a digital future’. The panel explored how the Royal Navy is maturing into a skills based organisation where she brought a NextGen perspective to the conversation. FutureNEST were delighted present to some more industry professionals, including Rear Admiral Jude Terry CB OBE RN, Commodore Marcus Hember RN, Captain Mohayed Magzoub RN and Linda Knutsen, Dstl. We are excited for NextGen day tomorrow where Neve will be talking about where your passion for defence careers can take you at 11:30 and the FutureNEST team will be busting some myths at the CSOC Forum from 12:25. Come and listen!

FutureNEST have now completed Visioneering25, a dynamic naval wargame set in the technologically transformed world of 2060. Visioneering is the journey of turning a vision or dream into reality, transforming a concept into a practical application. This process requires a blend of creativity, strategic planning, and a dedication to actualising ideas. By leveraging the strengths of each team member, visioneering creates a dynamic environment where new ideas can flourish. Visioneering challenged participants to design, build, and deploy an innovative naval fleet capable of adapting to the complex global landscape of 2060. With limited time and resources, teams had to strategically manage shipbuilding timelines, optimise fleet composition, and integrate emerging technologies such as autonomous systems and AI to enhance naval capability. Throughout the month of July our 3 teams of FutureNESTers met weekly where participants engaged in 5 dynamic wargaming scenarios. These involved responding to crises, cyber threats, and evolving mission requirements. Success depended on their ability to balance technological advancements with strategic decision-making, fostering creativity and problem-solving to address future uncertainties. The teams have overcome scenarios known as · Operation Blue Bastion · Operation Rogue Circuit · Operation Abyss Sentinel · Operation Kinetic Shift · Operation Flarepoint Some of the ideas and concepts include autonomous “fish” drones, quantum and laser communications, adapting ships to have large kinetic power storage (flywheels), and removing the aircraft carrier from the fleet but adapting new concept vessels to support instead. We can’t wait to share these ideas with you all! Come and find us at Stand A-345 at the DSEI where you will be able to discover more!
