Established in 1998, Ubisoft Milan is the creative studio that developed Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

About us

Established in 1998, over the years Ubisoft Milan has contributed to the development of some of the most important Ubisoft IPs such as Rayman®, Beyond Good & Evil®, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six®. After having pioneered motion-controls with titles such as MotionSports™ and Raving Rabbids® Alive and Kicking, Ubisoft Milan has collaborated to four installments of the Just Dance® series and has applied its skills to Assassin’s Creed® III Liberation, Assassin’s Creed® IV Black Flag® and Assassin’s Creed® Rogue. In recent years, the collaboration with Ubisoft Paris has led Ubisoft Milan to contribute to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Wildlands and Breakpoint, and to conceive and work in partnership on Mario + Rabbids® Kingdom Battle - a Nintendo Switch® exclusive turn-based combat adventure, featuring a team up of iconic Nintendo and Ubisoft characters that join forces to save the Mushroom Kingdom. After the global success of Mario + Rabbids® Kingdom Battle, Ubisoft Milan has worked on a massive DLC of the game featuring Donkey Kong, one of the most appreciated Nintendo® characters of all time. In October 2022, we released a new chapter in the Mario + Rabbids® saga: the critically acclaimed Sparks of Hope, and we supported it in 2023 with 3 DLCs, the last of of which featured the return of Rayman. In 2024 and 2025, we contributed to the development of both Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin's Creed Shadows, two of the most ambitious games in the Ubisoft portfolio.

Updates

  • Back in 2000, our team worked on a Game Boy Color version of the first Rayman. We still have a copy here in the studio - actually two, considering the Japanese version! - and today we received the new edition by ModRetro. All three are now in our display cabinet, along with all our other games and awards.

Last week we joined and supported the opening ceremony of the "Video Game. Beyond entertainment" exhibition in Rome, organized by IIDEA. Our Managing Director and an international guest from the Ubisoft Paris office contributed to a panel about games and education, and a demo station of the Ancient Greece Assassin's Creed Discovery Tour was available for all the visitors of the exhibition. It was great to have the chance to show the power of games to members of public institutions, answering to their questions about our industry.

  • A few weeks ago, we joined Fried Network Booster, an event by Cotoletta8bit where we led an experiment: a live game design brainstorming session with students and independent developers, focused on a fictional Assassin’s Creed kart game! It was a very fun experience and, in a bit more than an hour, the 12-people group produced a massive number of brilliant ideas, spread among five different categories: pilots, karts, offensive items, defensive items and other items. Bravo to all the participants and we look forward to repeating the experiment at other events soon 👏

  • Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia is a school in Turin where we always meet brilliant animation students. Every year we present our studio and the most important roles in our animation team, supporting them if they aspire to join the games industry but they need to specialize a bit more their skills before submitting their portfolios.

  • In Italy we are used to say something like “rainy wedding, lucky wedding” and that’s what happened this week for our Annual Meeting! In the morning, we faced one of the most massive rainfalls of the year, with widespread floods around Milan, but we managed to reach a nice location close to the Alps for a fun day off with the whole team. In the afternoon we were blessed by a bit of sun, so we enjoyed together nice local food, visited a high-tech farm, built weird scarecrows and tried to guess what was inside of some mysterious boxes. It was an amazing experience that offered us the opportunity to spend some free time together, creating bonds that will go beyond our projects and the daily work in the studio.
