For too long, mathematics has been described as a "universal language." In reality, math learning and practice are deeply connected to human languages, cultures, and contexts. This 60-minute fireside chat, hosted by Student Achievement Partners and TODOS, will bring together leading voices in math education to reframe mathematics as a multilingual, human endeavor-and explore how linguistically sustaining practices in math classrooms support identity, belonging, and deeper learning for all students. What if the way we talk about math has been limiting how students experience it? This week at NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education was filled with powerful and meaningful connections. Throughout the conference, I guided conversations toward one important topic: the urgent need to disrupt the narrative that mathematics is a universal language. As a former multilingual learner, this work is deeply personal to me. Math is not language neutral — our reasoning and understanding are shaped by the multilingual and human experiences we bring to it. These reflections highlight why I’m excited for our upcoming free webinar co-hosted by Student Achievement Partners and TODOS Mathematics for ALL. Join us on November 20th 4:00-5:00 PM PST — and please share with your networks! Together, let’s reframe math as the multilingual and human experience it truly is. https://lnkd.in/eznHX2k8

I'm looking forward to my panel conversation at EdTech Week this Monday about integrating AI for deeper math and literacy learning, where I'll be joining Student Achievement Partners to explore how we can use AI to support student thinking in those classrooms. Key Topics: • Real examples from classrooms showing how AI can support deeper thinking without doing the work for students • Practical approaches to AI integration based on what teachers have told us works in real classroom settings • Free resources and a set of guides that help educators know when to use (and not use) LLMs and content-specific AI tools in ways that keep students engaged in meaningful cognitive work Details: October 20, 2025 | 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM | Lerner West at Alfred Lerner Hall, 2920 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 I'll be there all day so make sure to say hello - looking forward to catching up with everyone! And for those who can't make it to NYC, this session shares work AI for Education and SAP did previously - you can check out the related webinars and guides for both math and literacy in the links in the comments.

Our partner, Student Achievement Partners, has created a dataset that maps every skill students need to master and draws routes between each skill and knowledge acquisition for different learning journeys. This dataset is now accessible through Knowledge Graph! “We're excited to work with Learning Commons to explore how the Student Achievement Partners Coherence Map - designed to help educators visualize the interconnected pathways of math learning - might be reimagined as a machine-readable framework that could guide edtech developers toward building products that respond to students the way experienced math teachers do.” Joy Delizo-Osborne, President & CEO at Student Achievement Partners
