As we wrap up 2024, we're looking back at some of the highlights from this year:     We celebrated 5 years of the landmark SAFER drinking water program, which has provided over $1 billion to disadvantaged communities since 2019. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gJRbycqT California's nation-leading regulations for converting wastewater to drinking water went into effect. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gX9NAUNR We acted to make urban water conservation a way of life, becoming the first state to use water budgets to promote efficient water use by large water utilities. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gPMRu4uw   We marked 10 years of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, making progress toward protecting our underground water supply. Tune in to hear U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission's Sally Spener discuss the new $4.7 million Tijuana River Channel trash booms pilot project, which aims to intercept debris that flows from Mexico into the Tijuana River, clogging the channel and contributing to chronic water quality problems. Last week, we joined California, federal, international and nonprofit representatives near the border to celebrate the project, which was funded by the State Water Board. The pilot project will run for the next two consecutive storm seasons and is made partially of recycled material. This past July, we marked five years of the SAFER program, launched after Governor Newsom signed SB 200 in 2019! We are building on the progress we’ve made to accelerate access to safe drinking water for all Californians. Total Grants: In its first five years, SAFER distributed $1 billion in grants to secure safe drinking water for 13.8 million people in 750 small, disadvantaged communities throughout California. https://lnkd.in/gtMY3ZvB Accelerated Funding: 2½ times more grants were provided to disadvantaged communities since 2019 than in the five years prior to the program. https://lnkd.in/gJRbycqT Consolidations: 142 consolidations were completed in the first five years of SAFER, with another 260 in process.
