Galileo Ground Station Network – GSS Kiruna Welcome to GSS Kiruna, one of the key sites supporting the Galileo constellation. Located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle in the forests of Swedish Lapland, its northern latitude ensures excellent visibility of Medium Earth Orbit satellites, enabling continuous data exchange with Galileo satellites. This station operates as both a Telemetry, Tracking and Command Facility and a Ground Sensor Station. As the Polar Night sets in and the Northern Lights glow above, the Kiruna station keeps Europe’s navigation signals strong, no matter how dark or cold it gets. The atmospheric physics mission ORIGIN-2 was successfully launched on a suborbital rocket on November 17 at our #Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden. It reached an apogee of 126 km and the payload could be recovered already the next day. ✨ The purpose of the mission by Stockholm University Department of Meteorology (MISU) and funded through Rymdstyrelsen (SNSA) is to investigate a phenomenon called nightglow, with the goal of improving models that explain physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere. Over the past 60 years we have launched more than 1,200 suborbital rockets giving scientific experiments and technical tests access to microgravity and space. Our services cover the full range from early mission and payload design to verification, launch and recovery. 🚀 ✨ Read more about the mission here https://lnkd.in/dJwh29Me
