𝐖𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭… 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭. It’s wild to me how much time, money, and energy we put into building anticipation before an event with registration campaigns, email blasts, perfect keynotes, and every little detail. The event goes well. People show up, they have a great time, they make connections, energy is high. But then what? Everyone goes home. And we go quiet. We focus 90% of our effort on getting people there and giving them a great experience. But maybe 10% (if that) on what happens after. That’s a massive blind spot. Because right after the event ends is exactly when people are most engaged. They’re thinking about what they learned. They feel inspired. They’ve made connections they don’t want to lose. And we just… leave them hanging. The smart event planners, the ones who really understand the long game, they treat the event as the beginning. They build post-event systems, create space for conversation to continue, keep the momentum going. Because if you can extend the life of the event, you can build a powerful community. So no, your job’s not done when the event ends. That’s when the real work starts.
