  • What a day! #ImpactDay2024 marked the 13th year of bringing together some of the brightest minds from across Publicis Groupe agencies to support social enterprises in creating meaningful change. This year, over 90+ volunteers worked hand-in-hand with 10 extraordinary social enterprises, helping them address core challenges and unlock new growth opportunities. From operational strategy to innovation, our teams provided the tools and insights to help these social enterprises maximise their impact. The dedication and passion of everyone involved was nothing short of inspiring. 🌟 At the heart of it all, Impact Day is about empowering social enterprises to amplify their impact - and we couldn’t be more proud of the results. We're eager to follow the progress of these social enterprises and see the lasting change they’ll create in their communities and beyond. 🌍✨ We want to thank all our volunteers and partners who made this day possible. Impact Day is more than just an event; it’s a movement, and we’re excited to build on this momentum for Impact Day 2025 - which promises to be even bigger and more impactful! 🚀 Stay tuned for more updates - and keep an eye out for the video highlights coming soon! 🎥

  • Nature is firmly rising up the agenda. Last week saw the launch of the latest WWF Living Planet Report, revealing a 73% decline in wildlife populations over the past 50 years. This has been driven primarily by habitat loss and degradation from our food system. It underscored the need to decarbonise rapidly, move finance away from destructive practices and transform the food system. With the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP16 a week away, attention will be on the urgent need to take action to reverse this alarming trend as well as explore new opportunities and collaborations focused on the bioeconomy offers - going beyond “nature positive” to include social impacts and people. Businesses must play a key role in protecting biodiversity by integrating nature into their transition plans. Reducing their environmental footprint is not enough. Companies need to actively commit to restoring ecosystems. This approach will help preserve vital resources as well as strengthen the long-term resilience of the business. The rapidly changing reporting expectations, including EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will force companies behind the curve to consider nature as they start reporting on their nature-related risks and opportunities and so UN Biodiversity COP16 could be a critical moment for nature protection. https://lnkd.in/eK7TcGnB

  • Last day attending the Sustainability Europe conference. It has been insightful to hear from preparers who they are gearing up for CSRD reporting compliance. Key takeaways from the sessions today include: Disclosure requirements: Companies are focusing only on the mandatory disclosures for the time being for the ESRS gap analysis. It is key to consider the phase-in disclosures and address the reasons for scoping out some subsidiaries for certain data points if these are deemed to not align with the subsidiaries’ operations. Don’t be afraid to push back on the auditors: Some preparers ask questions on why they have not assessed IROs as these have not come up in the double materiality assessment. Preparers should be ready to push back whenever it is believed that these are deemed not to be relevant for the business. If this issue comes up, have proper documentation to support the preparer’s reasoning for the omission. No standardised way of reporting: Some companies are not moving away from storytelling in the report, especially those that have been preparing an ‘integrated report’ for many years. Others are still debating whether to develop a ‘dry’ report aligned with CSRD and then develop a separate ‘sustainability highlights’ report to tell a more engaging story. If steering towards the second route, ensure that the story you deep dive in through this ‘highlights’ report in is acknowledged in the CSRD report. These two reports need to work side by side. Assuring the narrative: Keep the auditors involved in the development of the report narrative. Remember that this is a first time for everyone, and we should think about improving the narrative and refine the disclosure every year. We are all on the same boat.

  • Some initial takeaways from the first day of Reuters Sustainability Europe event: 1. Countries are struggling with climate adaptation: The Chair of the IPCC has made it clear that countries are slowly addressing climate adaptation, as it is more difficult to quantify than climate mitigation. Guidance will be developed to help countries navigate climate adaptation and set metrics to assess progress. 2. Regenerative agriculture and agroforestry can unlock opportunities all around, tackling soil health, carbon sequestration and decarbonisation: Technology is clearly an enabler that is yet not been scaled to smallholding farmers around the world. Companies should consider assessing pre and post land intervention to better quantify the impact. 3. AI as an enabler: Companies should consider the application of AI to resolve problems such as determining the amount of fertiliser to use, energy efficiency and supply chain recalibration. 4. The importance of insurance in sustainability: Companies and insurance companies should work together to understand what terms should be included in insurance policies, considering sustainability related phenomenon based on scenario modelling. 5. Investors sentiment on ESG: Contrary to popular belief, various professionals confirm that ESG is a common topic of conversation with investors. It is important to share with investors the trade-offs companies are making.
