Congratulations to Ivy Koh — recipient of the AWiCS-SIA Woman Architect of the Year! Presented by the Association of Women In Construction (Singapore) in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Architects, this prestigious award honours women who exemplify leadership, innovation, sustainability, and impactful contributions to the built environment. At the awards dinner last night, celebrating the women shaping the future of our industry, Ivy was recognised in the women aged 45 and below category for her creativity, technical excellence, and leadership in advancing sustainable and inclusive architecture. As Executive Director, A+D, and Service Line and Architecture Lead for Singapore and SAA Architects, Ivy brings nearly two decades of experience to the role. A seasoned architect, she has acquired both breadth and depth across a wide repertoire of successful projects, with a particular focus on high-rise residential and mixed-use developments in Singapore. Among her notable accomplishments, Ivy spearheaded the successful completion of the SJ Campus in collaboration with Safdie Architects — a project that won the prestigious President’s Design Award 2025 for Design of the Year. She was also the lead architect for the Temasek Shophouse, which received the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA) Conservation Heritage Award in 2019 and was a finalist for the President's Design Award in 2021. Ivy also serves as Honorary Secretary of the Singapore Institute of Architects and mentors aspiring architects as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Architecture is more than buildings — it shapes how we live, connect, and experience the world around us. This World Architecture Day, we celebrate the creativity and passion of our architects at SAA and SJ, who bring ideas to life in ways that inspire, connect, and make our communities stronger. Hear from some of our architects on what the profession means to them — and how thoughtful design helps shape better places for people and communities. ⦁ Anissa Tan — Integrating nature and modern living to create a sustainable sanctuary for residents, such as at Lakegarden Residences. ⦁ Kenny Chen — Creating lively spaces that spark recreation and camaraderie at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir Clubhouse. ⦁ Stephanie Loh — Designing smart, efficient spaces built for the future, such as Bulim Infrastructure Phase 2. ⦁ Hyo Sun Lee — How travel is reimagined through innovative, human-centred design at Changi Terminal 5. #SAAArchitects #SJGroup #WorldArchitectureDay #Architecture #BuiltEnvironment #DesignForGood #SustainableDesign #UrbanImpact #ArchitectsOfChange

Fresh off the Housing & Development Board Awards 2025, we shine the spotlight on Whampoa Park — an inaugural recipient of the Biophilic Landscape Design Award. The park’s transformation from a largely empty field into a vibrant, inclusive public space was celebrated for its sensitive integration of social, ecological, and environmental considerations. The project was commended by the award jury for maximising ecosystem services, particularly through its water-sensitive design that enhances stormwater management. The jury also applauded the team's sustainability efforts in retaining mature trees and creatively repurposing onsite rocks. “We knew from the start that preserving the mature rain trees was very important. The first thought that came to our minds was, “These roots are as old as our grandparents’ stories!” Hence, we designed an elevated jogging track to protect these precious roots, instead of paving over them. This honours the site’s natural heritage while creating something new for the community,” said Oliver Ng Boon Lee, Director, SJ Architecture (Landscape). More than just a recreation space, Whampoa Park embodies the shared vision and strong ownership of nearly 950 residents in the Kallang-Whampoa town. Through active community engagement, our colleagues from SJ’s Landscape Architecture team transformed an underutilised open field into a vibrant oasis with amenities such as a jogging loop, fitness zones, and play areas. Today, this community-named green space is where memories are made, neighbourly bonds are forged, and people coexist harmoniously with nature. The warm reception and lively crowds are a true testament to a job well done. And the accolades don’t stop here. Earlier this year, the team was also honored with the Rosa-Sinensis Award from Malaysia’s National Landscape Department for their outstanding work on Setia Fontaines Heritage Park in Kepala Batas, Penang. 📸: Courtesy of HDB #SJGroup #HDBAwards2025 #WhampoaPark #LandscapeDesign #BiophilicDesign #Sustainability #CommunityEngagement

Working closely with our colleagues in Atelier Ten (Environmental Sustainability Design), the integrated approach resulted in the transformation of a 50-year-old structure into a seamlessly connected, high-performing building in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District. As part of PGIM Real Estate’s Asset Enhancement Initiative, 108RR revitalises the structure with a bold vision to reduce carbon impact, enhance occupant well-being, and drive responsible development. In recognition of its outstanding commitment to sustainability, the building was awarded the prestigious Building and Construction Authority Green Mark Platinum certification. Some of the key features include: • Preservation of the existing superstructure, avoiding an estimated 950 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. • Upgrades to air conditioning and mechanical ventilation and lighting systems, leading to a projected 30% reduction in overall energy consumption. • Introduction of mixed-mode ventilation, which not only distinguishes 108RR from typical commercial buildings but also reduces indoor CO₂ levels by 40%, promoting a healthier indoor environment. • Incorporation of operable windows that enable natural cross-ventilation after hours when air conditioning is off, improving indoor air quality and occupant health. • Installation of rooftop photovoltaic panels to power facade and common area lighting. • Water-efficient systems reducing water consumption by 20%.
