    A Stanford study published this month explores what happens when language models are trained to “win” over an audience. The pattern was consistent: as performance increased, accuracy slipped. Models became more persuasive, but less aligned with the truth. The authors frame this as “Moloch’s Bargain”, the idea that systems optimise for whatever we reward, even when those rewards pull them away from what we actually want.   • The Business Insider feature on Salesforce’s struggles with Agentforce captures a wider truth about the state of “agentic AI.” A year after the hype, most large-scale agent deployments remain prototypes in disguise; complex, expensive, and hard to govern.
