About us

At Skagit PUD, we're more than a utility provider. We're your neighbors, dedicated to delivering safe, reliable water service that keeps our community thriving. Every day, we deliver 9 million gallons of clean water to approximately 116,000 residents across Skagit County. From Mount Vernon and Burlington to Sedro-Woolley and beyond, our extensive infrastructure includes 600+ miles of pipelines and 31 million gallons of storage capacity. Operating the county's largest water system, we serve urban centers and rural communities alike. Our service area spans from Fidalgo Island in the west to Marblemount in the east, and from Alger/Lake Samish south to Conway. For nearly 90 years, we've grown alongside Skagit County. We continue investing in infrastructure and innovation to meet today's needs while planning for tomorrow's growth.

Updates

  • Skagit PUD recently commissioned a micro-hydroelectric system at its 9th and Highland reservoir site adjacent to Mount Vernon High School. The HydroXS energy recovery system, developed by InPipe Energy, began operations at the end of June. The system captures energy from water pressure reduction at our storage facility, converting excess water pressure into electricity rather than dissipating it through traditional pressure-reducing valves. The installation will generate up to 300,000 kWh annually, powering electric vehicle charging stations for students, faculty, and staff while supplementing the school's energy needs. Over its 30-year lifespan, the system is projected to prevent more than 9.3 million pounds of CO₂ emissions. The partnership with Mount Vernon School District enables net metering arrangements since the PUD has minimal on-site electrical demand, while the school's consumption easily accommodates the system's entire output.

  • CHEERS TO SKAGIT PUD! Our water doesn’t just flow - it WINS! Our Judy Reservoir system just DEFENDED its title as Best Tasting Water in the AWWA Pacific Northwest Subsection competition, while our Marblemount system secured 3rd place! Judges sipped our water at room temperature (the real test!), and we're now heading to Boise in May to compete for the sectional title against top systems from three states! Quality you can taste - that’s the Skagit PUD promise! Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gP-vei9Q
