Progressive Democrats of America works both inside the Democratic Party and outside in movements for peace and justice.

About us

Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and our country. We seek to build a party and government controlled by citizens, not corporate elites-with policies that serve the broad public interest, not just private interests. As a grassroots PAC operating inside the Democratic Party, and outside in movements for peace and justice, PDA played a key role in the stunning electoral victories of November 2006 and 2008. Our inside/outside strategy is guided by the belief that a lasting majority will require a revitalized Democratic Party built on firm progressive principles. For over two decades, the party declined as its leadership listened more to the voices of corporations than those of Americans. PDA strives to rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up-from every congressional district to statewide party structures to the corridors of power in Washington, where we work arm in arm with the Congressional Progressive Caucus. In just a couple of years PDA and its allies have shaken up the political status-quo on issues from ending the Iraq war, voter rights, protecting Social Security, a full employment economy, national healthcare and economic justice. • Join us on Zoom this Sunday October 27, 2024 PDA Progressive Town Hall 4pm ET / 1pm PT Register here: https://lnkd.in/gNsQfqW4 The latest doomsday narrative in the national media is that Democrats are falling in the polls because their vast progressive base feels uninspired. Well, I invite any and all members of the national press to come by PDA’S Town Hall this Sunday because there’s nothing uninspired about what we’ll be doing. After all, there’s only one way to save democracy: build a better, more resilient, democracy.  That means empowering the middle class, the working class, and poor who make up the majority of society, while diminishing the power of our reprehensible real-life oligarchs, reversing a 35 year trend towards greater concentration of power and wealth in the hands of an unethical de facto ruling class. So, on Sunday, we’ll summarize the many ways that PDA can advance an unabashedly progressive vision for America during a Harris presidency. Imagine. In just a few weeks, we’ll be making a case why the Administration would be wise to embrace our programs – because they have broad support and will improve our society. Indeed, progressives have no reason to feel uninspired. We believe in our program for America, and we are strong enough inside the Democratic Party, and in society at large, to make sure that progressive policies get a hearing after a Harris/Walz victory. In stark contrast, nothing remotely promising will happen if we don’t win – indeed, the exact opposite will be the order of some very, very dark days. Clearly, as people of conscience, we cannot allow ourselves to be wracked with guilt and left wondering ”could I have done more?” Join us on Sunday and you’ll be able answer that question with dignity; and increase the likelihood that in future years we’ll be reuniting to celebrate how together we defeated fascism. Because this Sunday’s Town Hall will be equal measure Inspiration and Mobilization.  That’s right, we’re going to do the right thing on the Zoom call, and take action to win this election and save our democratic republic.

  • Join us on Zoom this Sunday October 20, 2024 PDA Progressive Town Hall 4pm ET / 1pm PT Guest: John Nichols Register here: https://lnkd.in/gNsQfqW4 We at PDA understand why people roll their eyes when they hear political activists say, once again, that this year is the most imporatnt election of our lifetime.  Invariably, this claim is made becuase of the inherent danger of the opponent.  Well... this time that claim is objectively true.  Trump and his oligarch-backed MAGA movement represent a much greater threat to the maintanance of our democratic republic than anything we've seen since, at least, the defeat of post-Civil War reconstruction or the Civil War itself. Now, at PDA, we do take a different approach than other mass membership political organizations to this reality - in that we ask everyone to be just as active both before and after an election in the fight to preserve and expand democracy. No contemporary public figure personifies that spirit more than the great political journalist John Nichols, who will be our guest on this week's Town Hall.  An ally of PDA since our founding 20 years ago, John will offer his understanding of the election as it heads into the final two weeks - and how progressives can help bring home an essential victory. Join us for this all-important Town Hall, Sunday at 4pm ET/1pm PT. RSVP Now!

  • Join us on Zoom this Sunday October 13, 2024 PDA Progressive Town Hall 4pm ET / 1pm PT Register here: https://lnkd.in/gNsQfqW4 PDA exists primarily to promote a positive progressive program. We spend the lion’s share of our time advocating for policies that will help people and the planet, and helping to elect candidates who support these policies. Of course, we regularly criticize politicians and policies we don’t support, but in comparison to most American political organizations we do very little negative campaigning. This moment is so dire that we will dedicate half of this week’s Town Hall to enumerating the reasons why Donald Trump’s 2024 candidacy represents a mortal threat to American democracy. In other words, defeat is not an option. Since the way to win is through mobilization, we’ll spend the second half of the Town Hall organizing for victory. Do not miss this all important Town Hall on Sunday at 4pm ET/1pm PT. We’re in the homestretch now with everything on the line. Join us for this all-important Town Hall, Sunday at 4pm ET/1pm PT.
