  • This #ManufacturingWeek, we think it’s important to shine a light on one of the Port District’s first industrial manufacturing companies of the mid 1980’s, Moses Lake Industries (MLI), and one of many reasons our region today is the #HeartofManufacturing. Founded by Tama Chemicals, MLI has grown from a regional pioneer to a global leader in semiconductor chemicals. With a strong family culture, invested in innovation and community, MLI supplies critical high-purity chemicals used in chip fabrication for giants like TSMC, Intel, and Samsung. Brent Hansen, Chief Operating Officer of MLI, said, “We feel MLI takes care of a very important niche in semiconductor manufacturing in that these customers of ours, some of the largest corporations in the world, put MLI to work supplying some of their chemistries. Anytime customers come up with a challenge, or they need some special formulation, the innovation and tenacity within the group of people out here is just remarkable.” MLI has expanded and continues expanding their chemical manufacturing and purification processes, as well as R&D labs. Infrastructure upgrades include advanced analytical equipment and bulk delivery systems. Future projects will boost specialty production capacity with new clean rooms and qualification processes, expected to be completed by mid-next year. Hansen said, “We're constantly improving, growing, developing. We're excited to bring this on.” MLI is committed to safety, growth, and giving back. MLI paid for the purchase of “Malie,” a K-9 deputy, along with a bulletproof vest for her for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit. MLI also donates to the Shop with a Cop program, Boys & Girls Club of the Columbia Basin, Community Services of Moses Lake, and Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation. • Strategic Business Development While Maintaining Strong Ties Promoting economic vitality and diversifying our economy lay at the heart of the Port of Moses Lake’s mission and vision. Ensuring that our Port district economy hosts a diversity of opportunity is Richard Hanover, Director of Business Development. Born and raised in Moses Lake, Hanover is primarily responsible for seeking and recruiting businesses that fit within our district’s industry clusters while maintaining our strong ties abroad. He’s also responsible for leveraging assets and resources to ensure continued economic vitality of existing clients, while working collaboratively with the city, county, state, Washington D.C. Recently returning from Japan, Hanover spent an intensive week in Tokyo, Toyoyama, and Komaki, before heading to Nagoya for Aeromart, a flagship international aerospace industry event where he presented at the Aerospace Conference, shown below. He said, “The purpose of this trip was to scout for innovative technologies we can bring back to advance the Port's strategic business plan. Meeting with senior leaders in Komachi and Toyoyama was very rewarding, and I remain gratefully humbled by the hospitality and eagerness to share knowledge. At the Aeromart event, along with subsequent company visits, there were valuable opportunities to engage with key industry players. It was the best agenda of nurturing our strong relationship with Japan while exploring opportunities to bring the best of what’s next to Moses Lake.” Hanover also plays a pivotal role in collaborating with local municipalities on various initiatives, including infrastructure development, affordable housing projects, and large-scale industrial construction. Additionally, Hanover is an active member of the Lodging & Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC), which provides guidance to the city of Moses Lake on the utilization of tourism funding. • Accelerating the evolution of aerospace Here at the Port of Moses Lake, AeroTEC - Aerospace Testing Engineering & Certification Inc. has been a driving force in aerospace innovation since 2003, offering comprehensive development, testing, and certification services. With extensive expertise in high-voltage systems, flight test instrumentation, and a proven history supporting novel propulsion programs, AeroTEC continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in aviation technology. Martin Tremblay, AeroTEC's Head of Operations, said, “We are a ‘design – build - fly’ outfitter. If the customer needs engineering integration, we can integrate their engine or design into a legacy airframe structure, do all the integration, the safety evaluation, and bring it to service and flight. That's the biggest asset of AeroTEC.” AeroTEC has recently been chosen by Pratt & Whitney Canada to modify and flight test the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-100 experimental aircraft. An RTX hybrid-electric propulsion system, paired with a Pratt & Whitney thermal engine and a 1 MW electric motor from Collins Aerospace, targets an enhancement of up to 30% in fuel efficiency compared to current regional turboprop aircraft. Engineering will take place in Seattle with testing in Moses Lake. AeroTEC is committed to future aerospace innovators, too. Earlier this year, AeroTEC hosted a STEM night titled “Take Flight.” In collaboration with NCW Tech Alliance and Boeing, elementary school students and their families enjoyed interactive activities, behind-the-scenes tours of actual aerospace projects, and conversations with industry professionals shaping the future of flight. • Congratuluations, Sila, on this incredible milestone! #greatplacetodreambig #heartofmanufacturing

We’re so proud to announce some big news: Operations have officially begun at Sila Moses Lake — the first automotive-scale silicon anode plant in the U.S. With this milestone, we’re closing the gap between American innovation and large-scale manufacturing. Our plant will produce our breakthrough Titan Silicon™ anode, powering the next generation of lighter, faster-charging, high-performance batteries — for EVs, consumer electronics, satellites, and more. This is about more than a factory. It’s about advancing American energy independence and creating a resilient, domestic battery supply chain at scale. Congratulations and thank you to the many Silazens and partners who made this possible. Much more to come! Read full release: https://lnkd.in/eRifWwpX
