About us
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) entities have more than 9 million members and supporters globally, and PETA U.S. is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. PETA Foundation was founded in 1993 as an organization that helps PETA run, and includes departments like IT, Development, and Interactive Media. PETA and the PETA Foundation are two separate organizations but work very closely together. Looking for a career in animal rights? See our open positions here: http://www.peta.org/jobs.

Victory! After a push from PETA, five prominent food and beverage companies—PepsiCo. Inc., The Coca-Cola Company, Campbell Soup Company, Fresh Innovations, and Sensient Technologies—are closing their checkbooks and refusing to fund cruel and deadly experiments on animals. The move comes after PETA contacted company leadership, informing them that their money was being used to kill animals in pointless experiments conducted at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Food Research Institute. The institute’s experimenters repeatedly force-fed parasite-infested feces to animals before slicing their bodies open, among other horrors. After considering PETA’s information, The Coca-Cola Company cut off all sponsorship of the Food Research Institute, while the other four companies placed restrictions on their donations, prohibiting another cent of their money from funding tests on animals there. https://lnkd.in/e-3qe4qB #victory #experiments #cruelty #animals #soup #soda #money #NotOurs2Use #AnimalRights #AnimalJustice #vegan #LiveVegan #activist

Animal defenders are jumping for joy over the good news that watch brand Bulova has confirmed that it no longer buys new reptile skins for its products! The decision comes after the company heard from PETA and more than 13,000 of our members and supporters about the cruel ways in which pythons and other reptiles are killed for their skin. Bulova joins our ever-growing list of companies and brands that have made this compassionate choice. https://lnkd.in/e9GGhSsj #Victory #Clothing #Macys #WearYourOwnSkin #ExoticAnimals #AnimalsUsedforClothing #NotOurstoWear #EndSpeciesism #Activism #SpeakOut #Veganism

Did someone call “shotgun”? Today’s conscientious commuters know that the sweetest rides sport all-vegan interiors, which means that no cruelly obtained animal-derived materials—like leather or wool—are used for any of the parts, including the seats, steering wheel, and gear stick. To make things easier for drivers who want their cars equipped with animal-friendly, sustainable materials, we asked some of the biggest car brands in the U.S. about their available vegan models and editions this year. https://lnkd.in/eJZG2CC5 #vegan #cars #drivers #CrueltyFree #sustainable #materials #VeganCars #LiveVegan #BuyVegan #VeganModels #GoVegan #activist #AnimalRights

Disappointing its loyal customers, fashion brand TELFAR—known for its Bushwick Birkin bag and many other stylish bags made of vegan leather—has launched a bag made of the skin of dead animals. Cows are intelligent animals who can remember things for a long time. Animal behaviorists have found that they interact in socially complex ways, developing friendships over time and sometimes holding grudges against other cows who treat them badly. These gentle giants mourn the deaths of and even separation from those they love, sometimes shedding tears over their loss. But cows and other animals are cruelly slaughtered so that the leather industry can profit from their skins. Please urge TELFAR to return to exclusively using vegan leather for its bags. https://lnkd.in/eZS_rDhj

Coach’s new brand, Coachtopia, is the fashion house’s latest play to reach Gen Z. It claims to offer “sustainable” products made using “recycled, repurposed or renewable materials.” Sounds nice, right? But one of its most-hyped materials, “Coachtopia leather,” is basically ground-up scraps of skin from animals who were violently killed. No matter what labels Coachtopia uses, leather is always a product of cruelty to animals and is never sustainable! https://lnkd.in/eFawNXuX #coach #cruelty #fashion #animals #leather #WearVegan #NotOurs2Wear #WearYourOwnSkin #VeganFashion #GoVegan #AnimalRights #AnimalJustice

Ahead of this year’s “ThanksVegan” celebrations, PETA has been urging people across North America to choose a compassionate holiday feast. Each year in the U.S., approximately 46 million turkeys are killed and sold for Thanksgiving. Turkeys are playful, intelligent individuals who protect their flocks and bond with humans—some turkeys who live on farm sanctuaries have even been known to choose their favorite people. Read some of the ways PETA has helped make Thanksgiving better for all animals in 2024. https://lnkd.in/e2YzmAgh #ThanksVegan #celebrations #ChooseCompassion #turkeys #intelligent #Thanksgiving #animals #Vegan #GoVegan #VeganHoliday #AnimalRights

PETA has been shouting it from the rooftops: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) hands over fistfuls of taxpayers’ cash to foreign laboratories without blinking an eye, never bothering to check up on what these places do with it. Now there’s even more proof. A report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General has found that in fiscal years 2019 and 2020, NIH never received a whopping 74% of the audits it required from foreign laboratories it funded. This means that the laboratories that spent at least $750,000 per fiscal year never bothered to say what they were using the money for. NIH forks over up to $300 million each year to foreign laboratories that sicken, slice open, and kill animals in pointless experiments. This new report provides hard numbers that confirm what PETA has already said: There is no oversight on how that money is spent. Millions are Wasted While Animals Die If you’re a U.S. resident, please TAKE ACTION by urging your U.S. representative to support the CARGO Act. And everyone can urge the Colombian government to ban the capture of monkeys for biomedical experiments. https://lnkd.in/guYdcsPe #CARGOAct #NIH #NationalInstitutesofHealth #SpeakUp #CallYourRepresentative #Experimentation #AnimalExperimentation #AnimalUsedinExperimentation
