After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the U.S. defense community came together in a show of resilience by displaying a U.S. flag at the Pentagon impact site as a visible symbol the Pentagon will never cease operations. It is a tradition that continues to this day, 24 years later, in honor of those who lost their lives. The Pentagon Force Protection Agency is grateful to have had so many of our partners attend this solemn ceremony. From fellow defense community members to local first responders who represent more than 40 agencies that aided the Pentagon that fateful day, thank you for joining us in this time of remembrance. PFPA extends special thanks to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for his presence at this distinguished memorial event. Photos courtesy of U.S. Army Sgt. Joseph Spraktes and Cpl. Joseph Martin. About us
Pentagon Force Protection Agency is a civilian Defense Agency within the Department of Defense. Our law enforcement officers protect and safeguard the occupants, visitors, and infrastructure of the Pentagon and associated facilities, including the Mark Center and Defense Health Headquarters. This critical mission is accomplished through the dedication of police officers; criminal investigative and protective services agents; threat management agents; chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives technicians; anti-terrorism/force protection and physical security personnel. Service is paramount to everything we do at PFPA. Pentagon visitors and government employees can spot our employees providing emergency services, parking enforcement, lock installation/services, classified waste disposal, access control, building pass issuance, mail screening, and law enforcement. Welcoming September with our K9 of the Month, K9 Chief! 🐶 This Labrador Retriever, born April 13, 2022, joined the Pentagon Police in 2023. K9 Chief plays a vital role in protecting the Pentagon and surrounding areas as an explosive detection dog. One of the ways PFPA K9s like K9 Chief prepare for their jobs is to improve their physical fitness and strengthen the bond between K9 and handler. Both are needed to conquer the PFPA K9 obstacle course, where our K9 handlers use progressive training to gradually foster muscle memory in our K9s through repetition.
