SUCCESS! It is my pleasure to share my testimony to reach more people and encourage them in their own journeys. Prior to incarceration my background was in emergency management and emergency services. Sticking to the world of safety upon my release in June 2019, I worked for various landscaping companies, tree services companies, a fiberglass swimming pool contractor as well as a home repair company out of Chapel Hill. I started my OSHA certification process in October of 2024 and have since obtained my OSHA 500 which allows me to be an authorized OSHA outreach trainer for OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 in construction, of which I offer this training in English and Spanish. As of last week with the completion of my OSHA 3115 course I have obtained my C-MESH or Construction Manager of Environmental Health and Safety Certificate and have subsequently applied for my OSHA fundamentals certification as well. I had initially contacted and met Mr. Lockamy in person last September in his office due to the recommendation of a current inmate friend of mine. At the time, Mr. Lockamy was not aware that I resided in Lee county and was not able to fully assist me as he could if I were a Wake County resident. However, Mr. Lockamy went above and beyond after finding out that I was not a Wake County resident and provided me with information for me to follow up on in order to help me gain employment once again. The reason for my visit to Mr. Lockamy was due to my lay off in August of 2024. Mr. Lockamy was encouraging, and very helpful despite me not being able to fully take advantage of his office’s services due to my county of residence. Suffice to say, he is one of the reasons I am now gainfully self employed, well certified and becoming busier with new clients and opportunities. After nearly four years serving her sentence at the NC Correctional Institution for Women, Jorgie Brown will leave next month - and step into a future she’s worked hard to build. She will leave with a job already lined up and with her Duke Divinity School Certificate of Achievement in Theological Education in hand. Through a unique #NCDAC / Duke Divinity School partnership, the program offers graduate-level courses on site at #NCDAC prison facilities in which incarcerated students participate alongside Duke students. #NCCE Manager is PHENOMENAL! Scotland Braille Plant Manager Cynthia Stubbs was nominated and chosen as a “Phenomenal Woman” in a recent online challenge initiated by Aloha Braille & Company LLC (AB&C). AB&C asked “Do you know a Phenomenal Woman you’d like to celebrate and honor? If so, we’d love to hear about her and celebrate her with you.” Aloha Braille thanked Cynthia for all her work with the VI (Visually Impaired) community as well as for her work with women, the incarcerated, ex-offenders, the state of North Carolina, and the Aloha Braille family. She received a letter of congratulations and a special braille version of Maya Angelou’s poetic book, Phenomenal Woman. Maya Angelou was an American memoirist, poet, and civil rights activist. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,” a well-known Angelou quote, emphasizes the lasting impact of emotional interactions and the importance of creating positive experiences for others, which Cynthia Stubbs puts into practice daily. #NCCE #northcarolinacorrectionenterprises #TeamNCDAC

CORRECTION ENTERPRISES RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY FOR ITS OUTSTANDING WORK IN CORRECTIONAL INDUSTRIES AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES Every year, National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA) makes a special effort to acknowledge individuals whose extraordinary skill and leadership in their respective programs improve Correctional Industries as a whole. This year, at the NCIA National Training Conference held in St. Louis Missouri, Director John Coleman accepted the highest honor for NC Correction Enterprises, receiving the 2025 Performance Excellence Award. In addition, #NCCE Workforce Development Manager Torrey Leach received the Staff Award over the Southeast Region for his exceptional work in Reentry and Rehabilitation. Congratulations to #NCDAC's Correction Enterprises drivers Darrell Monroe and Scott Surles on winning the American Correctional Association's Award of Merit! The two were recognized and awarded for their quick-thinking and heroic efforts in February of 2024. When on the way to a delivery, they came across a wreck and rescued the trapped driver before the wrecked car burst into flames just seconds after pulling the driver from the car. #TeamNCDAC
