A woman stole almost £1 million from an elderly couple who considered her a trusted family friend. The couple had granted her Lasting Power of Attorney over their financial affairs. However, she betrayed their trust by transferring a total of £901,498.23 from their bank accounts into accounts she controlled, for her own personal use. Ian Lloyd and Zoe Chandler joined a panel discussion with Mogers Drewett Solicitors at The Bath & County Club where they talked about key tax planning considerations. The session explored: • The impact of frozen thresholds, inflation, and potential policy shifts • Income and business tax planning, including ISAs, pensions, dividends, and corporation tax • Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, and succession strategies • HMRC’s increasing focus on R&D, property, crypto, and offshore assets.
