Today, Secretary Rafael López (he/him/él) joined Gov. Wes Moore at the Anne Arundel County Food Bank as he signed two executive orders to help get food on the tables of Maryland families impacted by President Trump’s government shutdown.  Maryland is working with food banks and partners statewide on a $10 million effort to feed families. Our governor’s actions are loud and clear: We will make sure that no Marylander is left behind by the federal shutdown. #FederalShutdown #SNAP

I said we’d do all that we can to make sure the federal government follows the law and provides funding for the critical services Marylanders rely on — and I meant it. This bipartisan effort will make sure the over 40 million Americans who rely on SNAP don't pay the price for the federal government's failures and can continue putting food on the table for their families.

Leaders from our Social Services Administration (SSA) team met at the Chesapeake College on Maryland's Eastern Shore for the first of three Child Welfare & Adult Services Fall Regional Supervisory Meetings. These gatherings bring together our SSA leaders and local Departments of Social Services to share our plans and vision to better serve Marylanders. We also shared one of our biggest commitments: prioritizing kinship care for youth. The Washington County Department of Social Services shared their success in keeping more children and youth with kin since the Kinship Care Law passed in 2024. #FamilyMatters
