The Water Treatment Plant is home to the City of Manitowoc’s Water Quality Laboratory. State certified Water Operators conduct sample and analysis of water samples from the water system in the lab. Water that passes through the microfiltration process undergoes up to 20 tests per day. MPU produces some of the highest quality drinking water in the nation. Our drinking water has met and exceeded every federal and state drinking water health standard.

MPU’s fully-subscribed Community Solar Program gives customers an opportunity to directly participate in a form of clean energy, solar generation, without the upfront cost that rooftop solar panels require. A recent law change expands the Wisconsin sales and use tax exemption for electricity sold for residential use. Currently, electricity sold during the months of November, December, January, February, March, and April for residential use is exempt from Wisconsin sales and use tax. The law has been expanded to now provide the exemption for the entire year. This goes into effect on October 1, 2025.
