Water towers are a crucial part of the water distribution process, but how do they actually work? Check out the graphic below. 

Significant infrastructure is needed to distribute water from the Water Treatment Plant to homes and businesses throughout our community. Here’s a snapshot of just some of the infrastructure that keeps the water flowing: 

The Water Treatment Plant is home to the City of Manitowoc’s Water Quality Laboratory. State certified Water Operators conduct sample and analysis of water samples from the water system in the lab. Water that passes through the microfiltration process undergoes up to 20 tests per day. MPU produces some of the highest quality drinking water in the nation. Our drinking water has met and exceeded every federal and state drinking water health standard. 

MPU is proud to provide quality drinking water to our community, but it comes with great responsibility. Our water treatment process ensures that the source water becomes your safe, high-quality drinking water. There’s a lot of steps to this process, but here’s a high-level overview:

This week is #NationalCleanEnergyWeek! MPU’s fully-subscribed Community Solar Program gives customers an opportunity to directly participate in a form of clean energy, solar generation, without the upfront cost that rooftop solar panels require. The primary role of the position is implementing strategic initiatives to achieve desired results aligned with the organizational mission, vision, values, and fundamental areas of focus through a collaborative role on the Leadership Team. Secondary, this person is responsible for overseeing electric power utility distribution operations, maintenance, design, and construction, among other responsibilities. A recent law change expands the Wisconsin sales and use tax exemption for electricity sold for residential use. Currently, electricity sold during the months of November, December, January, February, March, and April for residential use is exempt from Wisconsin sales and use tax. The law has been expanded to now provide the exemption for the entire year. This goes into effect on October 1, 2025.
