  • 🇸🇾 For victims and survivors in #Syria, the fall of the regime represents the chance not only to speak without fear, but for their demands to be heard. They have been waiting thirteen and a half long years for #justice and recognition, and they deserve a role in shaping the transition. Remnants of the Assad regime such as the notorious #Sednaya prison stand as testament to the momentous task ahead and the need for all Syrians to work together. Survivors have shown remarkable courage to revisit the prison where they were once subjected to unimaginable horrors and try to bring it to life for anyone who will listen. They provide harrowing accounts of their experiences, describing in vivid detail the inhumane conditions they endured, which have left lifelong scars. 👉🏼 Read the observations of LAW’s Executive Director Antonia Mulvey and Syria team, who visited Damascus for the first time on 23 and 24 January 2025: https://bit.ly/40RxJS0

  • 🇱🇧 🎙 On 21 January, our Founder and Executive Director Antonia Mulvey thanked the incredible professor Imad Salamey for one of the most interesting lectures she has given in the last decade. At Lebanese American University, Professor Imad Salamey and Antonia Mulvey discussed about global justice for victims and survivors of international crimes and students delved into the topic with sharp questions as "What is the relationship between politics and law?", or again "Do we now have a world full of injustice?". Today more than ever, we need #youth to be involved and engaged in understanding the role of law. Young people are the ones who will continue the #justice fights we are pursuing at LAW, together with partners and victims and survivors.

Last week I finally visited Beirut and met the team in #Lebanon. I am proud to see how they have continued working with true dedication to increase access to #justice for the most vulnerable during these hard times.  Our conversations centred on the new leadership within Lebanon, the promises this brings for #justice and #accountability within the country and how this could reduce the discrimination that is pervasive across society.  We also elaborated on the use of innovative legal strategies to support survivors of gender-based violence, particularly within the context of the #Kafala system, which often leaves migrant domestic workers in Lebanon vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.  Looking forward to coming back soon to this incredible country and people where I have lived and worked for so many years.

  • It has been a great pleasure and an honour for Legal Action Worldwide (LAW)’s team to have worked closely with Beth Van Schaack and her office, during her tenure as the U.S Ambassador-at-large for Global Criminal Justice, across several conflict-affected contexts. Together we have pursued innovative survivor-centric #justice: universal jurisdiction cases, strengthening #accountability processes, supporting witness protection, and advancing a dialogue on reparative justice. Her 2023 Cox’s Bazar visit to LAW’s field office remains memorable LAW's #Rohingya clients who shared their aspiration to see justice for the crimes committed against them and their families by #Myanmar military junta.

Check out this video for highlights from my tenure as Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice!

Empowering Youth to Advocate for Education in Displacement Settings: A Final Ceremony of Inspiration and Achievement As our project with youth comes to a close, we reflect on a journey that has been both inspiring and transformative. The initiative, designed to equip young people with the knowledge and tools to develop effective advocacy campaigns, culminated in a final ceremony celebrating their creativity, commitment, and vision for a better future. This project focused on addressing a pressing issue: education for youth and children in displacement settings. Participants learned how to identify challenges, design impactful strategies, and amplify their voices through various advocacy tools. The result was a powerful campaign that highlighted the barriers displaced youth face in accessing education while proposing actionable solutions. Throughout the project, the youth showcased their ability to engage meaningfully and lead with purpose. They created content for social media, including posts, videos, and infographics, to raise awareness and mobilize support for their cause. These platforms became their stage to advocate for education as a fundamental right, even in the most challenging circumstances. One of the most joyful aspects of this journey has been witnessing their energy, creativity, and dedication. Working with youth underscores the importance of involving them in decision-making processes—not only as beneficiaries but as active contributors to shaping solutions. If they are not part of the decision-making process now, we must ensure they are equipped to take on this role in the future. The final ceremony was more than a celebration of their achievements; it was a testament to the power of investing in youth. By giving them the right tools and fostering a sense of ownership, we are building a generation capable of advocating for themselves and others. As they presented their campaigns and shared their experiences, it was clear that this was just the beginning. These young advocates are now better prepared to tackle challenges, influence change, and inspire others to take action. Their voices matter, and their work reminds us all that change starts when we empower those with the courage to dream and act. This project reaffirmed a vital truth: working with youth is not only an investment in the future but also a means to drive meaningful change today. The stories they shared, the challenges they tackled, and the solutions they proposed serve as a reminder that, even in the face of adversity, hope and action can prevail. As we close this chapter, we remain committed to supporting young people in their advocacy efforts. Together, we can build a world where every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the quality education they deserve. • 🇧🇩 On Monday, Shanti Mohila members had an inspiring discussion with Rohingya activist Noor Azizah. They spoke of #gbv, #childmarriage, #education challenges and about building diasporic solidarities for #justice and #accountability; as well as about returning to #Myanmar with dignity and citizenship. In 2025, Shanti Mohila will continue conversations with activists discussing the transformative role of #Rohingya women in securing justice and social cohesion for their future in Myanmar. LAW looks forward to facilitating these through its Rohingya Diaspora Dialogue initiative.
