In an era of cuts to global health aid, governments are looking for evidence-based interventions that provide the greatest benefits for the lowest cost. Enter UNIMMAP #MMS. For just a few cents more than IFA (with 2 ingredients), MMS has 15 vitamins and minerals that support healthier pregnancies and better birth outcomes for women and their babies. Taking multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) daily during pregnancy can prevent anemia, support a healthy pregnancy, and reduce the risk of babies being born too small, too soon, or stillborn. MMS provides 15 essential vitamins and minerals and has been shown to be more effective than iron and folic acid, which has long been the standard in low- and middle-income countries. Nepal is now exploring how to make this shift part of national policy. Explore the new visual story in Devex, supported by the Eleanor Crook Foundation, which follows the lives of women, health workers, and policymakers as they take on this effort. https://lnkd.in/dRebENU4

Over two dynamic panels at the ICN IUNS Paris, speakers brought rich perspectives on scaling up #MMS. ✨ Panel 1 highlighted country experiences from Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Nigeria, showcasing diverse approaches to expand access. Speakers shared insights on MMS policy, financing, and programming, underscoring critical considerations for the sustainable scale-up of this intervention. ✨ Panel 2 focused on monitoring adherence, with lessons emerging from studies in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Rwanda. Discussions explored methods to strengthen tracking, improve compliance, and ensure women consistently benefit from MMS throughout pregnancy. The conversations brought together voices from government, academia, implementation partners, and the private sector — all aligned by a shared goal of improving maternal nutrition. We’d like to thank all the speakers for their participation and for generously sharing their experiences, insights, and lessons. At Sight and Life, we are grateful to contribute to this global dialogue. By bridging evidence, policy, and practice, and convening diverse stakeholders, we continue to support the journey toward making MMS a standard of care in maternal nutrition.
