Our mission is to promote and advocate for optimal child, youth and family well-being, and access to quality healthcare
About us
The Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP) is an organization of approximately 2,000 pediatricians in Illinois. Primary activities include advocacy on behalf of children, families, and health professionals in Illinois; the provision of continuing medical education and other resources for pediatricians, pediatric specialists, and other child health care providers; and collaboration with other state organizations and agencies on programs and projects that improve the health and well-being of children. ICAAP's mission is to promote and advocate for the optimal child, youth and family well-being, and access to quality healthcare while supporting our members. ICAAP committees undertake projects in education, publication, advocacy, and other areas and include not only pediatricians but other health and child welfare professionals. If you are interested in assisting the ICAAP by participating on a committee - or if you would like to help start a new ICAAP committee - please contact the appropriate committee chairperson or the ICAAP office.

Illinois Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics reposted this
Today’s White House event on autism was filled with dangerous claims and misleading information that sends a confusing message to parents and expecting parents and does a disservice to autistic individuals. We know autism is complex, highly variable and increasingly linked to genetics. Individualized plans, often involving a combination of developmental, behavioral, educational and social-relational strategies, can help improve outcomes that are meaningful to individuals and families. We also need and welcome additional investments in federally funded research to better support families of autistic children. Families who have questions about their child’s medications, autism care plans or other health care should consult with their pediatrician or health care provider. https://bit.ly/4gBDNEc
