About us

The International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) is a long established and unique global organisation representing cooperative and mutual insurers from around the world. The important and common bond uniting ICMIF members is that they place the interest of policyholders/members before those of shareholders, working hard to ensure that they offer the best possible range of affordable products for their customers. Continually seeking to broaden the scope of member representation has resulted in many new members joining ICMIF, thereby increasing the networking and leverage that ICMIF has in the global financial services market. ICMIF aims to promote and work with the cooperative and mutual insurance sector globally by being a leader in providing information and services to members, and representing the interests of, the global cooperative and mutual insurance sector. Working together with the members in this way underpins the Federation’s commitment to providing “a global reach for local strength”.

Climate disasters are real. Building resilience is essential. But how to make that investible??? Our co-founder and co-CEO Victoria Miles was sharing thoughts with the #insurance community at ICMIF's #Resiliance and #Sustainability summit this week, alongside our partners Legal & General The excellent panel also included Jake Harper from L&G Asset Management, Shawna Peddle from Co-operators Alissa Legenza ASA, CCM from United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and moderated by Ben Telfer Detailed discussions on - the challenges such as pricing visibility, availability of P&C insurance  - the role for blended finance - the importance of data - innovations in structuring to create a range of quality investible solutions Many examples of opportunities including - flood prevention systems - wildfire resilience solutions - bridges to withstand hurricanes These aren't just projects, these transform the lives of vulnerable communities. Access to education, healthcare, employment...livelihoods. They require capital injections, often have official sector support and can offer a range of investible outcomes, appropriate for different pools of capital. Thanks so much for inviting us to the conversation Liz Green Please get in touch with us if you'd like to learn more. #SustainableInfrastructure #ResilientPortfolios #ImpactInvesting

ICMIF Supporting Member Descartes Underwriting launched an innovative parametric flood insurance product for commercial customers in the United States earlier this year. We were delighted to welcome Descartes as an ICMIF Supporting Member as of September 2025. The company’s new Flood-at-Location policy is designed to offer fast, transparent, and flexible protection against pluvial, fluvial, and coastal flooding. Using advanced on-site sensors to measure flood depth in real time, the product enables almost immediate claims assessment and payout, typically within days, without the need for loss adjusters or lengthy investigations. Descartes’ Head of Americas, Daniel Vetter, said: “This responsive and remarkable new product delivers unparalleled, flexible flood coverage for commercial properties. For all the reasons that conventional insurance for flood is sometimes unsatisfactory – slow claims payments, exclusions, sub-limits, or a lack of availability – this parametric product will fill the existing gap we’re seeing in the market.” Read the story: https://lnkd.in/eeW8Wnae #Insurance #Reinsurance #ParametricInsurance #FloodInsurance #FloodCover Dina Joory Eric Allombert

    ESG/CSR Manager - Sustainable finance

A big thanks to ICMIF, Catherine Hock, and Ben Telfer and for their invitation to speak at their Resilience and Sustainability Summit 2025 in London. I shared Aéma Groupe’s sustainability journey and governance. Three lessons learnt: 1. Spreading the word about the benefits for our society of our mutual (insurance) governance and business model is good; 👉 Spreading the word beyond the frontiers of the mutual insurance ecosystem (e.g., to traditional listed/private actors) is not a "nice-to-have", it's essential! Thomas Scherrer, Kim Nguyen-Huu, Edward Salter, Marina Lanzillotta 2. Think beyond GDP to measure our society's resilience (polluting creates GDP... so let's move on: good health life expectancy, land-use rate, inequality rate, environmental health, etc. should be looked at the same level) 👉 See Banque de France literature on the "New Wealth indicators" : https://lnkd.in/eGQYsH3j 3. Stop bringing only sustainability/ESG experts to sustainability/ESG events. 👉 Bring along business and metiers to embed sustainability further. A warm thanks to all worldwide ICMIF members who shared their experience and knowledge. Being a mutual entity is already a huge step toward our society’s overall sustainability, resilience & robustness. Let's keep spreading the word. • Day two of the ICMIF Sustainability Summit in London 🌍 Day one was full of inspiration, and day two has been just as energising so far thanks to the great contributions of speakers from across our global membership of mutual and cooperative insurers. Across today’s sessions we are exploring: 💡 Unlocking investment opportunities through disaster risk reduction – how mutual and cooperative insurers are using capital as a force for good to strengthen climate resilience and deliver shared value. 🌱 Community first: Mutual models for climate resilience – putting people at the heart of climate adaptation through community-led education and engagement. 🔧 Operationalising resilience – integrating prevention and risk reduction across underwriting, claims, and product design to create forward-looking, resilient insurance models. 🤝 Collaboration for a resilient future – roundtable discussions on how partnerships and joint initiatives can accelerate sustainability impact across the mutual sector. A big thank you to all our speakers and participants for sharing their insights and experiences: the conversations today continue to show the power of collaboration across our sector in building a more resilient and sustainable future. #ICMIFSummit #Sustainability #ClimateResilience #Mutuals #InsuranceForGood #Collaboration #OnlyAtICMIF #ConnectingMutualsGlobally #Purpose #ESG #SustainableInvesting

  • 🌍 How will geopolitics, climate change and new technology affect the insurance industry of the future? These were some of the major issues that were discussed when the world's leading mutual insurers gathered in Paris during ICMIF's Global Strategy Summit and we were delighted to count on the participation of Alexandra Stråberg of Länsförsäkringar! ✨ Länsförsäkringar AB's Chief Economist Alexandra Stråberg participated as both a speaker and moderator during the event. The theme of this year's meeting was "Profits for Purpose", and Alexandra began the programme by giving an up-to-date picture of the global situation. She raised issues of nationalism, protectionism, and the importance of global cooperation to address challenges such as climate change, AI, urbanization, and demographic shifts. 🌱🤖🌆 Alexandra also led a panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges of geopolitics, as well as the operational effects for mutual societies in a rapidly changing world. 💬🌐 "To be able to represent LF at ICMIF's strategic meeting was both an honour and inspiring. At a time when the world is changing rapidly and the challenges are great, it is more important than ever that we dare to think in new ways, collaborate across borders and take responsibility for a sustainable future. I am proud that we at LF contribute with both courage and insight to the global conversations that shape our industry - and where we together can make a real difference for people, society and future generations." - says Alexandra. A huge thank you to both Alexandra and Länsförsäkringar for contributing their insights and perspectives to these important global conversations – and we too look forward to continuing to work together for a sustainable and long-term society together.
