  • Jess Davis, our Director of Online Retail, has been named a 2025 Publishers Weekly Star Watch honoree, one of only 36 rising leaders recognized across the book publishing industry. The Star Watch award celebrates outstanding talent under 40 who are shaping the future of publishing, and Jess is an incredible example of that innovation and leadership in action. In her first year as channel owner, Jess led Highlights to increased net sales growth and point of sale growth, all while reducing ad spend and she’s continuing that momentum this year. Jess embodies the spirit of Highlights: thoughtful, innovative, and driven by purpose. Through her leadership in online retail, she continues to evolve how we drive family connections and experiences that help children grow into their best selves. Read more:https://lnkd.in/gPC4YUyH

  • At Highlights, we’re proud to support early literacy through our continued partnership with ELCPH! The new Owlivia’s Book Nook at You Thrive Florida in Brooksville is a warm, welcoming space where young children and families can discover the joy of reading together. Big thanks to our Highlights Early Learning team for championing a lifelong love of learning! Check out the full post below to learn how we’re working together to build brighter futures, one book at a time.

📚As part of ELCPH's Early Literacy Partnerships, we are excited to present our second Owlivia's Book Nook children's library to You Thrive Florida in Brooksville! This cozy corner is designed to spark a love of reading for families with young children as they enter the You Thrive Florida lobby! Providing young children with access to books from an early age is essential for healthy development. Early exposure to books supports the growth of critical language, literacy, and social skills, while also enhancing cognitive development. These early reading experiences lay a strong foundation for future academic success and help cultivate a lifelong love of learning and reading. 👏We’re so grateful to our sponsor, Highlights Early Learning for helping us inspire a love of reading where we can celebrate early literacy with Brooksville’s youngest citizens! For nearly 80 years, Highlights for Children has existed to help children connect with their power to learn, create, and become their best selves. • The Highlights Early Learning team, represented by CEO Kent Johnson, General Manager Emily Hawkins, Director of Product Development Laureen Reynolds, and Director of Digital Operations Ryan Hohman, was honored to attend the Destination Kindergarten Breakfast, hosted by the Early Learning Coalition of Orange County, Florida. As an event sponsor, we were proud to support the ELC’s mission to prepare children for kindergarten and lifelong success with a strong, whole-child foundation. Their focus on literacy skills, healthy habits, physical activity, curiosity, and creativity reflects the values we hold close at Highlights for Children. Seeing the joy and passion in the room, especially from the children themselves, was a powerful reminder of why this work matters so deeply. Thank you, ELC Orange County, for welcoming our team and your dedication to helping preschoolers grow into their most creative, caring, confident, and curious selves.

This past Saturday, I had the immense pleasure of spending the day at Polk County ELC’s 2nd annual Early Learning Conference. 250 energetic, invested, passionate providers filled the conference center with levels of investment and dedication that are hard to describe. During my lunch time keynote, we had great fun with hidden pictures and sharing the Highlights story while I warmed the group up for the true reason I was there: KINDNESS. In my general session, providers humored me and illustrated what kindness meant to them. As they shared what they drew on their paper plates and I took them through the Kindness Connections enrichment kit, we were all reminded of three things: kindness comes in many forms, can be given by anyone, and is critical to a child’s kindergarten (and life!) success. At Highlights, we believe children are the world‘s most important people and clearly this group of dedicated professionals does too. Thank you Polk County! https://lnkd.in/etPrzgSb https://elcpolk.org/

  • Last week, Highlights for Children, represented by Rachel Barry, Andrea Silen, and Chantel Grant, was thrilled to participate in the National Book Festival, hosted by the Library of Congress, where readers of all ages came together to celebrate the joy and power of stories.   For over 75 years, Highlights has been nurturing a love of reading, creativity, and kindness in kids. At this year’s festival, we were excited to share what makes our stories so special, right alongside incredible authors, educators, and literacy champions from across the country. From the moment the doors opened, our booth was buzzing with energy. We spent over nine hours connecting with thousands of parents, kids, teachers, and librarians, and the energy never slowed. Here are a few standout moments: Our Highlights Forever sticker campaign was a hit with fans of all ages, and our ever-popular scavenger hunt remained a standout attraction for the second year in a row. We had meaningful conversations with educators, with many sharing how they use Hidden Pictures puzzles daily in their classrooms, especially in grades 2–3. We’re excited to follow up with these passionate teachers.   We're so grateful to everyone who stopped by and shared their Highlights memories, and to those raising new readers with us today!

  • Ever wonder how Highlights continues to engage kids so deeply in a digital world? It comes down to the incredible talent, empathy, and creativity of the team behind every issue. Our CEO, Kent Johnson, perfectly captured the sentiment as we recognized Judy Burke’s 30-year anniversary with Highlights Magazine. As Editor, Judy leads with purpose, passion, and heart, embodying everything our brand stands for.

CEO at Highlights for Children and Advocate for Children

Sometimes people wonder why Highlights magazine can so adeptly hold the attention of so many children in a digital age. The answer is simple: the team that creates Highlights each month brings incredible talent, joy, experience, empathy, creativity, and love to creating each issue. Our content team is simply the best. It was such an honor to toast the 30-year service anniversary of our own Judy Burke. Judy serves as the Editor of Highlights Magazine. She is a leader on an incredible team. While Mary-Alice Moore and I toasted Judy in front of our board and shareholders, there really aren't sufficient words to adequately appreciate Judy and all her colleagues. Over generations they have built mission and purpose into every experience we create for children through our magazines! Think of the millions and millions of families they have positively impacted! I am filled with gratitude.
