If you often find yourself coming to meditation when in crisis and struggle to maintain a daily consistent practice, you're not alone! I've found over the years that many people come to meditation as a way to fix something: stress, anxiety, heartbreak, burnout etc, and once the storm in their life settles, the practice often fades away. What's interesting: is a recent study from the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that people are more likely to stay with their meditation practice when they feel supported by others who meditate, have experienced the benefits first-hand, learned from a teacher or mentor and see well-being as something that can grow over time. What this tells me is: consistency isn't just about discipline, it's also about connection, understanding and perspective. So if you find yourself in a lull in your practice, consider the following: Community - do you feel supported by others who meditate? Trust - do you believe the practice is effective and worthwhile? Guidance - do you have a teacher or mentor that can support you? Accessibility - do you have the time, space and knowledge to sustain your practice? Growth mindset - do you see your wellbeing as something that can expand through practice? Which one of these are present in your life already and which ones could use a little more care and attention? Let me know your thoughts 🪷 Study reference: Lam, S.U., Riordan, K.M., Simonsson, O., Davidson, R.J., & Goldberg, S.B. (2023). Who sticks with meditation?
