About us

It all started in a shoebox. Starting in 1953, Gesa Credit Union has grown from a part-time office to the second largest credit union in Washington state. Serving over 260,000 members around the world, Gesa has a rich history of providing financial services to Washington state. Since 1996, when Gesa became a community-chartered credit union and opened its membership range to everyone in Washington, the credit union experienced explosive growth. From inception, consumers embraced the value of banking with a not-for-profit cooperative. Gesa has grown to twenty-seven locations throughout the state but will always maintain a strong commitment to its roots. People in our communities have made Gesa what it is today, and we don’t take that loyalty for granted.

LUNCH MONEY: Last week, Gesa Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its new student-run branch at North Central High School. This marks Gesa’s first branch with Spokane Public Schools, a partnership that gives students real-world experience managing financial transactions like deposits and withdrawals, while also helping their peers open checking and savings accounts during lunch hours.   Student intern Kate Turnbull will be managing the kiosk, which is open during first and second lunch periods. In between, she’ll return to 4th period DECA class.   “I applied just like any other job. I went through an interview process and interned over the summer at a branch," she shared. "I think everyone should take the opportunity to create an account, get a debit card, and start taking care of their own money and having that responsibility because then they’ll be set up for the future."   Gesa’s High School Credit Union Program, which began in 2000, combines hands-on financial training with classroom learning. It was the first Financial Sector Career Launch-endorsed program in Washington, giving students across the state meaningful, career-ready experience in the financial industry.

    • A group of people stand in front of a counter decorated with a large red banner that reads “Grand Opening” in bold white letters. The counter has signage for North Central High School and Gesa Credit Union. Red confetti fills the air as two individuals hold oversized scissors and cut a red ribbon, while others hold confetti poppers.
    • Students wearing black North Central Wolfpack tshirts clapp as red confetti falls.
    • Two people stand in front of a counter with a “North Central High School Credit Union” sign above. The counter displays informational materials, a disco ball overhead, and a colorful banner with balloons.
    • A person behind a red counter hands a blue brochure to another person wearing a “North Central Football” sweatshirt.
  • Celebrating our 2025 Local Hero grant recipients! We gave back $528,504—directed by our members using their Local Hero debit cards—to support 52 different organizations representing local heroes in our community. Thank you to our members and to these dedicated organizations for their tireless work!

  • Happy International Credit Union Day! In partnership with our local credit union friends, we spread the credit union love all across Washington, from volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club in the Puget Sound and Corks Place in the Tri-Cities to supporting the amazing kids at Hutton Settlement in Spokane. That's the credit union difference!

  • 490 Gesa team members spent 2,177 hours giving back to their communities yesterday for Day of Service. More than 70 organizations across Washington, Idaho and Oregon benefitted from their efforts. From hosting financial literacy workshops and reality fairs, to cleaning up local parks and volunteering at food banks, we're proud to support the places we call home.

  • Making an impact where it matters! We recently visited the Yakima Children's Village to see the results of our community commitment. In longstanding partnership with the Memorial Foundation, Gesa Credit Union pledged $100,000 to Children's Village (2023-2025), plus an annual $50,000 donation to the Memorial Foundation; helping fund their recent expansion, which includes: 🏥 Restoring local Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) services for high-risk pregnancies, saving families a trip to Seattle or Tri-Cities. 🧠 A new behavioral health wing. 🩺 10 new medical specialty rooms (cardiology, neurology, etc.). Keeping high-quality, specialized care close to home for Central Washington families is what it's all about!

  • Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! ✨ We're excited to feature our very own team member, Tatiana, and her reflections on what this special month means to her. "To me, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to educate others and celebrate the key role that Hispanic Americans play in U.S. history and culture," Tatiana says. "As a Mexican American, I am proud of my heritage and acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions that have been made by the Hispanic community. Es un privilegio poder entender dos idiomas y ser parte de una cultura asombrosa." (It is a privilege being able to understand two languages and be a part of an amazing culture.) Tatiana has been a valuable part of the Gesa team for 4 years, and when asked about her favorite thing about working here, she shared, "The community impact. I love that Gesa gives back to the communities we serve and supports causes that matter to our members." Thank you, Tatiana, for sharing your story and for all you do!

  • Do you live in Tacoma and could use a free supply of diapers and wipes? Our latest Local Heroes drop-off was for The Monarch Diaper Bank, who is tackling a critical need for local families. Families can access their free supply of diapers at both the Children’s Museum of Tacoma and the Children’s Museum at JBLM during operational hours, all while enjoying the museum's Pay as You Will admission. We're proud to support organizations making a real difference in our community!
