The FRA's mission is to enable the safe, reliable, and efficient movement of people and goods for a strong America.
About us
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is an operating administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation and was created by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 (49 U.S.C. 103, Section 3(e)(1)). The purpose of FRA is to: promulgate and enforce rail safety regulations; administer railroad assistance programs; conduct research and development in support of improved railroad safety and national rail transportation policy; provide for the rehabilitation of Northeast Corridor rail passenger service; and consolidate government support of rail transportation activities. Today, the FRA is one of ten agencies within the U.S. Department of Transportation concerned with intermodal transportation. It operates through seven divisions under the offices of the Administrator and Deputy Administrator.

It was a great honor to have presented along with my colleagues at the Transportation Research Board Webinar series the latest work on addressing grade crossing safety and trespass prevention using A.I. Special thanks to Rutgers University’ Asim Francis Zaman PE Xiang Liu for their work sponsored by the Federal Railroad Administration. It was also exciting to have attendances from overseas as well such as ISABELLE FONVERNE from UIC - International union of railways #UICrail, Maryam Hedayati from Transport Canada - Transports Canada and others. More to come on the matter, and let’s keep working together to make railroads safer! 😁😁

#TechyThursday: FRA sponsored a study by TRAINFO to reduce first responder delays at rail crossings. You can read the report that discusses how they assessed the effectiveness of in-vehicle systems and dispatcher tactical maps to reduce the risk of responders interacting with active rail crossings.
