Connector insertion is an essential step in wire-harness assembly, yet it has traditionally been very difficult to automate. The challenges are twofold: - Detecting and grasping a moving connector (e.g., on a conveyor) with high accuracy and reliability; - Delicately controlling the contact forces during the insertion of the connector into its socket. We showcased three demos, each focused on automation in real-world factory settings: 🔧 Force-Controlled Connector Insertion A connector moving along a slider is picked and inserted into a mating part with precision.With our conveyor tracking and force control technology, this process—previously done by hand—can now be automated. 🪛 Random Bin Picking of Shiny Metal Parts Our vision system accurately recognizes and picks glossy, complex-shaped parts without the need for structured light or ToF sensors. 🚗 Our new demo – Force-Controlled Connector Insertion – debuts at Automotive Engineering Expo Nagoya next week! Connector insertion is a critical step in the assembly of wire harnesses into a car. Yet, this step has not been successfully automated, because of two main challenges: 1. It is difficult for a robot to precisely detect and pick a connector, especially when it is moving, for example on a conveyor 2. 🗼New phase of growth at Eureka Tokyo Office 🌟 Since its establishment in 2023, Eureka’s Tokyo office has continued to grow—expanding fivefold in headcount over the last 18 months. In response to this rapid growth, we completed our third office relocation in May, further strengthening our operations. Our Tokyo office plays four key roles: sales (including new customer acquisition), technical support, marketing, and recruitment. Additionally, in January of this year, we opened a new base in Nagoya to engage more closely, in particular, with the automotive industry. Since our entry into the Japanese market, we have acquired a significant customer base, comprising both large corporations (e.g. Toyota, Honda, Denso, Bridgestone, Mitsui Fudosan, Panasonic, Sumitomo Bakelite, Unisol,…) and established mid-sized companies (e.g. Shotoku, Sigma-Koki, ...) A key to our success has been a dual dedication to Japanese Monozukuri (extreme focus on product quality and customer satisfaction) and Global Outlook (adaptation and leadership in a rapidly changing AI landscape, international company culture.) One of our employees, Mr. T, who recently celebrated his one-year work anniversary with Eureka, shared: “Work is busy, but I find it incredibly rewarding to take on difficult challenges together as a team.” A coffee enthusiast, Mr. T also led the introduction of a Swiss-made coffee machine to the office, which has become a favorite daily delight for the entire team.
