🌍 This year’s #WorldFoodSafetyDay served as a powerful reminder of the crucial role that science, communication, and collaboration play in protecting our food systems. To celebrate this global initiative, we engaged in a number of key events across Europe, each providing valuable opportunities to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and reinforce our shared commitment to public health. In Portugal, our Chief Scientist Carlos Gonçalo Das Neves contributed to a technical-scientific event co-organised by ASAE - Autoridade de Segurança Alimentar e Económica and EFSA’s Focal Point. The discussions focused on the future of food chain risk assessment, the importance of cross-sector collaboration, and the role of funding in supporting science-based solutions. We also participated in the World Food Safety Day Conference and EFSA NAE in Mostar, where our colleague Giovanni Mancarella joined experts to explore coordinated communication and scientific cooperation in risk assessment. These events, alongside others held across Europe and worldwide, demonstrate the growing momentum behind our collective efforts to build safer, more resilient food systems. We remain dedicated to fostering collaboration and supporting evidence-based decision-making to protect public health across Europe and beyond. #FoodSafety #WorldFoodSafetyDay #ScienceForSafety #Collaboration #PublicHealth

About us
Science, safe food, sustainability. EFSA is a decentralised agency of the European Union with headquarters in Parma, Italy. The agency was set up in 2002 following a series of food crises in the late 1990s to be a source of scientific opinions and advice on risks associated with the food chain. Our work forms the basis for the European policies and legislation in the food safety area. Our scientific remit covers: food and feed safety, nutrition, animal health and welfare, plant protection, plant health, and the possible impact of the food chain on the biodiversity of plant and animal habitats. EFSA employs around 565 staff members and works alongside over 1500 external experts. If you are interested in a career at EFSA and wish to contribute to food safety in Europe find more about our work and how to engage with EFSA here on LinkedIn or on our website. Today, on the occasion of #WorldFoodSafetyDay, which took place on 7 June, our Head of Communication and Partnerships Department, Barbara Gallani, had the pleasure of meeting with representatives from key national institutions and academia in North Macedonia to raise awareness about our role in the EU food safety system. The event was a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation and promote available opportunities for engagement, capacity building, and networking — all essential to support North Macedonia’s integration into the EU food safety framework. #FoodSafety #EU #Collaboration #EFSA #Cooperation

How can I get more personalised advice on my nutrition needs? 🤔 Nutrition and health professionals provide tailored advice on healthy dietary choices, helping consumers understand the nutritional content of food, including information found on food labels. Their guidance, along dietary advice from national authorities, is backed up by scientific Dietary Reference Values (DRVs) that show how much carbohydrates, dietary fibre, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals are needed in our diet.
